Question for Skuzzy
« on: October 14, 2016, 12:59:47 PM »
Running at 4k rez with GTX 980TI card.

Pretty solid framerates overall, and looks awesome.  Play on a 55" TV mounted over my desk....

Need to replace MB and CPU as they are my oldest parts of my system...3rd gen i7 at 3.4ghz. 16GB RAM.

How much workload does the CPU do vs the GPU, and would I see a benefit from doing so?

Video showing FPS at 4k-- (upload started at 1245 Central time 14 Oct so give it 15 minutes or so)

You can see in the video..sitting on a runway with ack guns firing and 4 bandits plus 2 GVs I get 75ish FPS.....once in the air, I get more.
Attached is a screenshot of CPU work being done....

Just wondered how much FPS hit you get from CPU getting task saturated?

Thank you,
Dobs

Why is there no sound? I know you didn't record this from the film viewer.

It sounds like you have the EVGA X-58 MB. Or something simliar. I have one, a 950 at 3.07 GHz, with 12 gigs of RAM and a GTX 1070.

Im kinda wondering why you want to replace an i7 paired with a 950Ti, probably have to buy new RAM, when you admit the entire set up is "playing great"?

No matter how much we push to the GPU, the CPU is still needs to stay available and free from other work.  The GPU cannot do anything without the CPU sending all the data to the GPU.  If the CPU gets interrupted, the data flow stops, causing frame rate stutters or uneven frame flow.

The fastest video card on the planet is worthless without data to work with.  If the CPU cannot keep the data flowing to the video card, then that world class video card might as well be a VGA adapter.

As far as the percentage breakdown between the CPU and GPU goes, it can vary greatly, depending on what is happening, in any given frame.

Because I did some switching around of my sound controllers when I was trouble shooting those pesky microfreezes......and thank you.

Will fix it now.

Yeah, thanks for reminding me. I'm moving my AH folder to another drive. Pauses are getting worse instead of better.

You might want to try a clean install of the latest version as well. Just save and transfer your settings.

Didn't help. I found one area of the SFMA map that is particularly bad about petit freeze, or screen pauses online, but offline doesn't cause an issue.

Thought about that Save, but DX11 is there for a reason:)  Besides if we all did that, it would never get fixed.

What kills me is somewhere between Beta and like the third patch the freezes started..... were not there for me before.

Thank you for the info Skuzzy....i was hoping for a number or percentage:)  Have to upgrade (as you know) MB, RAM, and CPU if I want to upgrade my CPU.....just wanted to make sure the jump to the latest generation i7 was going to be worth it.

TV is a Sony XBR-55X810C.

I switched to 9 for last night but noticed when getting real, real close to another fighter, the other fighter skipped back and forth across the screen making it impossible to make a shot.  I went out and switched back to 11 and that went away.  This was quite different than a bad internet connection plane jumping around.

I run DX11 and have planes jumping about.

Not a lot though

AHIII is awesome  :)

In three months time I hear we will have submarines in game
