I want to return - Need a computer - Don't know where to begin???

1. is it worth upgrading the video card right away? Or actually any immediate upgrades suggested - got about a 1000.00 max budget.

If I were buying a system today, I'd get a $200 GTX 1060 and spend about $500-600 on the rest of the computer system (not counting monitor), such as from superbiiz.com.

2. like the 42 inch tv option as a monitor - what minimums on specs needed for good graphics, ie. LED? refresh rates .. etc..

My suggestion would be (regardless of what you get) one with 5 ms or less response time.  I don't know if TV's are good gaming monitors or not -- never used one for that.

3. Headphones - mic - any standard basic setups recommended - ?

I like the KOSS CS-100.  Super cheap (about $15), but I like them, think they sound good, and the mic is very good.

I just picked up a DS computer...it's the 2nd one we now own (son has one as well) got the vanquish smokes the game.

I have been lurking a little bit here - same situation as you Cav - been a long time since I have been playing and looking to maybe start up again in a limited scope-  looking at the DS system also- "good" version- not interested in building my own - and really like the extended warranty

Like Brooke said the jump to a 1060 wouldn't hurt. At DS that would add $180 to the price but it is a better card and should hold you longer than the 1050.

I am clueless about these things - been a long time since my floppy drive days... - weird thing about vr - I get motion sickness in most games - Air Warrior and Aces High were only - "motion" games I could play without getting ill, I am guessing that would be a problem for me still...

I would think the VR would be a problem, tho you might get use to it after awhile. The getting use to it may get messy 

I use this TV as my monitor, https://www.cnet.com/products/insignia-ns-39l240a13/specs/ on a GTX670 video card. Colors are great and game video is smooth.

The $605 version is similar to what I built; my machine generally runs DX 11 ver AH3 with graphics set at max at mostly a steady 60 fps (my FR is limited to 60 fps by my monitor).
