It is the original version of Windows 7 from Dell?  That should have contained all the drivers for the computer.

I'll do some digging and find the original. 

Found the original Drivers & Utilities Disk that came with the computer.  Loaded it, looked through the files, and don't recognize that describes anything obvious about CPU or motherboard drivers.

I then found another Dell W7 upgrade disk(apparently I originally had Vista and stand corrected) that has the following in a drivers file.

If the computer came with Vista, then that is the only source for the drivers, as the Dell upgrade would assume the drivers to be installed already.

That list contains Intel, RealTek, NVidia, and something called Xeno.  The Intel list looks like it has the video chip, network, and general (?) support drivers.

See if the Intel_Gen file will run.  There is a good chance Dell wrapped the executables so they would only run on Vista.  If that is the case, it seems the only way you are going to get all the drivers installed will be to install Vista, then the Dell Windows 7 upgrade.

That could be a lot of things.  It the mic works in the Windows Sound Recorder (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Sound Recorder), then it could be as simple as the incorrect device being used by the game (Options->Preferences->Game Sounds), or it being blocked by a firewall (router or local).

If it does not work in Windows Sound Recorder, then that is where you have to start.  If it does not work there, it cannot work in the game.  In the audio control panel (Start->Control Panel->Sound), under the "Recording" tab, check to see if the mic shows as being connected and go from there.

It does not work in windows sound recorder.  It's greyed out and not selectable.  My first point to check was in game and then windows sound recorder.  So, I'm at a loss as to what the next step should be.

Thanks for your patience with this Skuzzy.  Very much appreciated.  The mic has been plugged into the same port it's worked normally for years.  The Creative Sound software/drivers were downloaded and installed after W7 was resinstalled.  I've also tried plugging the mic into a mic port in the rear of the computer with no difference noted.

Your built-in audio device is not going to work anyway.  There are no drivers installed for it.

When you right click on the speaker ICON in the system tray (lower right corner), and select "Recording devices", what does the panel show?  A picture would be fine.

Keep in mind you may have plug points both on the front of the PC and the rear.  There maybe a setting that may say ignore the front or rear plug you are using.

Skuzzy, below is the page you requested a look at.  As you can see the Microphone FP, which I've used for years with a plug in microphone, shows "Not plugged in".   The mic is plugged into the Mic hole in the front of the computer.  Per your previous post, is it a dead mic or dead sound card?  I doubt the sound card is dead because the speakers test when the configuration menu is selected.

I've checked the Device Manager and find Creative SB-Fi and High Definition Audio Device (Microsoft) under "Sound, video and game controllers".  I uninstalled the HD audio device with the thought that the Creative SB should be the only one showing.  Correct?   Well, as soon as the HD device is uninstalled, the computer reinstalls it without my prompting it to do so.



Randy, thanks for the input.  I did check both front and rear plug status.  The front was enabled along with the rear.  I've never intentionally enabled the rear and have disabled it.

I'm quite confused by this mic issue since it worked fine when I had Vista, upgraded to W7, and to W10 (yeah, probably should have not done that one).  Since reinstalling W7, this has occurred.

Thanks to all who have contributed ideas and patience with my issues.  I very much appreciate the help.  :salute

After the previous post, I logged into the game.  Frame rate was a solid 59-60. Game sounds all worked normally.  Still no mic transmit.  I tuned to myself on channel, tested with no sound, and the game quit working.  Had to control-alt-delete to get back to the desk top.  Logged back in, tried a vox check on range, and the game quit working again.  Control-alt-delete to get back to desk top.  Logged back in and had great frame rates.  Still no mic function and unable to hear other players transmitting on range.

Tomorrow, I'm getting a new microphone as a first step.

Puma, for testing purposes you can use headphones in the microphone input. Cheap ear buttons do. Just check that the plug is of the right type with a metal tip, ring and sleeve. Two rings between the tip and sleeve are for phones or macs, the extra ring is for microphone. Even that should work at least as showing as a plugged in device, possibly causing extra hum or one channel only. Also notice that headphones are very insensitive for microphones. You'd have to yell to get audible results. But the work for testing without having to buy anything.

Not hearing other players is a network function as the voices you hear will appear as normal game sounds to the computer.  Usually either a router firewall or computer firewall is blocking the inbound connection required for VOX to be heard over UDP.

Ok, thanks Skuzzy!  I'll look into that today.  Is there something code wise other than HiTech or Ace High I should be on the look out for in the firewall(s)?

Bizman, your idea solved one of my problems.  Plugged in a set of ear buds to the mic receptacle and the Microphone FP lit up and showed plugged in.  So, it's off for a new mic today.  Thanks much for the suggestion!
