I just copied and pasted my from my build sheet as my computer is not hooked up in my new office yet. Once I build a desk I will fire it back up and post a dxdiag. But basically its a sandy bridge I5-2500k running at 4.2ghz with a 6950 2gb video card and 16gb ram. I built this in August of 2011 so its a little aged.

The 6950 is the weak link, but it should be able to run the game with some tweaking of the graphic settings (disable shadows to start).

Can I just throw a newer card in and be good to go or will I have another bottle neck somewhere down the line?

A newer card should do the trick just fine, depending on the card.

Game performance is tied to the video card performance.  The faster the card, the better the game runs.  Once your CPU is above 3GHz, then it falls to the video card.

There are always other factors, such as background processes, anti-xxxx software, and so on which all conspire to impact overall performance.

That one would be a killer, supposing you're using one single 1920x1080 monitor! Even on a 1440p it should perform really well with a couple of features disabled. There's been some discussion about the 3 and 6 GB versions of the GTX 1060 in slight favour of the latter, so your choice is very good in terms of longevity.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

GTX 1060 is a great card, especially for 1920x1080 resolutions.  The 3GB card would be more than enough for Aces High III.  If you go beyond 1920x1080 resolution, the 6GB card is better.

If you are considering getting a VR headset, then consider a 1080Ti.

I'm running triple monitors. Thanks for the input. Now to make my current card have an "unexpected failure" so I can justify the new one to the Mrs.  :devil  :aok

Wait, if you are running 5760x1080, then the 1060 is probably going to struggle a bit unless you crank down the graphic options.  You might want to consider a 1070, or better for that kind of resolution.

That's a lot of pixels to render.

5760x1080 resolution
6,220,800 = 23.73MB per frame to generate

vs

1920x1080 = 7.9MB per frame to generate

Basically you tripled the amount of work the video card has to do.  A 1060 runs 1920x1080 pretty well, but it will probably struggle to keep up with that triple monitor setup.

It would be great to see you back, SilverZ!

Just take that 6950 out to clean it ( and unhook the fan's power LOL)

Then tell the wife that you need a 1080ti because of the new update graphics of AH3!

That way, you will be ahead of the game if you want to go Oculus Rift 3D flying!

Welcome back...you been gone long enough

Cheers

TC
