Influx of new players????
« on: August 21, 2017, 07:57:35 AM »
Anyone noticed an influx of new players.  I know it's not available on Steam yet, but if you saw the advertisement on Steam and really wanted to get the game, wouldn't you go directly to HTC and download and play the game?  I'd think we would be seeing some impact on the numbers even with the decision by HTC to delay the opening on Steam.

If a certain Steam advocate on this board is any indication, many Steam players wouldn't go out of their way to contact a developer directly to pay for a game...they'll just wait until they can get it through Steam; even if it's available for free.

This.

I have steam, other people I game with have steam.  They look at as, "I have Steam loaded and set up for payment.  Also, if  I don't like  the game, I can get a refund from Steam."  No such protection from the HiTech site.

Isn't it more likely they have been visiting these forums just to see what we are about while waiting for the go live date on Steam? That could be a double edged sword and why Skuzzy gave us a reality check about how we were interacting with nugetx. A co-equal question might be has Skuzzy seen an uptic in guest lurking during this time frame. Anecdotal as it could appear and be nothing but people doing some summer time odd net surfing.

I would not worry about new players until they shoot you down.  This genre is far more flooded than peak years, current game play has little to interest a new player and definitely not someone who has grown used to organized fighter action from other games, and the 15 dollar a month subscription fee will swat the rest away.  but what do i know, im just a paying customer.

On Steam if you've purchased something and played less than 2 hours you can get a refund on it.

14 days, 2 hours of play - but that is not a be all, end all.
-------------------
How To Request A Refund
Valve will, upon request via help.steampowered.com, issue a refund for any title that is requested within 14 days of purchase and has been played for less than 2 hours. Even if you fall outside of the refund rules we've described, you can submit a request and we'll take a look at it.
Additional information and troubleshooting instructions for existing refund requests can be found in our Common Refund Questions FAQ.
-------------------

If your machine can't pull a game, they are more likely to give a refund outside the window.

Also, part of Aces High is free - so I suspect the 2 hours won't start until Steam collects the coin.  But then, who knows.  Maybe not.

If you're talking about Steam and an Aces High refund, Steam lists it as a free game. Any subscription you pay for will go through the game itself, so any refund would have to be from HTC themselves.

I dont know anything about Steam, so for my own clarification..

Player X pays sub to Steam, Steam lists AH3 as a free game, so they get to play it for the price of their subscription to Steam? Is that correct?

There is no such thing as a 'subscription to steam'.
It's just a digital marketplace/distribution system.

New players will come when it will launch on steam.

90% of steam users will get it via steam and not the 'official' website.
