Hoping this is just a phase, but for the past month and a half I log after a single sortie, and that’s if I even decide to login at all.  FSO is keeping my sub but right now I’m at an all time low for MA gameplay.  I spent $1,400 bucks a year ago to play AH exclusively and it sucks im to this point already.  I’m trying new aircraft, vehicles, tactics etc but none of it is doing it for me.

Best thing might be to just not login at all for a month and hopefully the spirit is rejuvenated in 2018?

What do you guys do when interest in the game is in the dumps?

Skinning or terrain building.   Those soak up lots of time.   When the game gets stale that’s where I go...   Change of pace.

Since AH3 went live I've built two terrains for the MA and am working on a third. I mostly login for squad night, FSO and a few nights each week during the month.

I've been playing the game just about non-stop for 15 years. The two years of the alpha\beta testing I did for AH3 kind of burnt me out looking at the environment. It did give me a place to start understanding about half the GV problems and some of the general game play problems not related to human personal issues. Those, I leave to the big guy, he gets paid the big bucks to understand his customers. I don't know if I want to look into skins. After two MA terrains built from scratch, I've developed a sense for the terrain and the game that is only possible in most art style applications if you bite the bullet and live in the application and it's environment for over a year. Most people forget I built a fourth terrain while doing the alpha\beta testing for offline gunnery practice called "gunnery". It's available from the custom terrain HOST download.

Now days, playing the game gives me research feedback for the current terrain I'm working on just like with the two previous terrains. So if anything, I login to learn about how terrains are utilized by the current generation of players.

Lots of advice - I'd get a friend/squad you can fly with, even if it's in another game.  Lots of us are into DCS, IL2, WoT, WT, all the other options, in addition to AH3.  What you're experiencing is something every gamer goes through in any game they play longer than a week or two IMO.  Just take a bit of a break, keep your sub running, and just come back when you feel the itch to.

Another option is to set some goals - ie try different stuff than you normally do, say fly just the Spit5 or Ki43 for a couple weeks or a tour, and set a hard roof of 10k for yourself. Or conversely, fly just the K4 or P47M, or some other E monster, and only engage in mid/high alt fights, managing your E and focusing on that type of fighting.  Try for a certain kills/hour rate, that sort of thing.  I know many crap on the stats, but if you use them for just personal benefit and setting goals like this, it can be a fun way to push yourself, and give you a reason to log in every night.

Not sure if you've tried VR, but if you haven't, and are looking for a way for the game to blow you away again, that's something you certainly could try, and would enjoy IMO. The cost has come down IIRC quite a bit for the Rift as well.

Honestly, I have felt this way twice in my short 5 years of playing.  What snapped me out of it was changing things up.  I rotated to another country.  Also, I got into terrain making.  I probably spend more time in the object and terrain editors than I do in the game.

So that's where you've been. :aok

You have done a great job.....I have tried making a map and  I do not have the knack for doing it so hats off to you Sir. The maps even the old one's that have been retro fitted for this game are good......but its all the junk they added to these maps that have folks not having the same spark they had a year and a half ago, and I'm one of them. I really have lost interest in the game mostly come to meet up with friends and do a little GV ing what left of that. So we'll have to see how thing pan out this year and make a decision around summer time when my other hobby kicks in and I do not spend all that much time in AH III. Bring the magic back, cause the eye candy isn't doing it.

I've always felt Delirium's "stages of AH player" was pretty accurate in a lot of cases.  This game has a shelf life for every single player, and the clock starts ticking the first time you log in.  Different people last for different amounts of time.

Wiley.

Here you go, very applicable to this discussion.

Becoming Involved vs. Not Subscribing (0 days - 2 months)

At this stage, the new player decides to learn the game, or get frustrated with the learning curve and quit.

Win The War vs. Learn to Fight (2 months - 8 months)

At this time, the newer player joins a squadron and decides which path his gameplay will be; either winning the war or concentrating on the fight. This choice depends greatly on the squadron the individual joins.

Popularity vs. One of Many (8 months - 3 years)

During this period the player seeks to gain notoriety or becomes one of the masses (voluntarily or not). Note that some never leave this stage.

Stagnation vs. Action (3 years - 7 years)
At this period the player leaves the game in boredom or branches out in the game to keep interest alive. Some even attempt to give back to the game to keep the interest alive.

Frustration vs. Acceptance (7 years +)
During this period the player decides that the new crop of players or tactics are the worst thing to happen to the game in a very long time. They lash out against any new idea or concept and often leave the game for several months at a time, vowing never to return. With few exceptions, they always return to the game eventually.

I seem to be one of the ones that stopped at stage 3.  My MA activities have dwindled hard over the last year though.  I'm pretty much just a squad night/if I log in and see squaddies on and FSO/scenario warrior these days.

I believe you're  in the stage of Stagnation vs Action.

Always hardest to analyze myself, but what I *think* is keeping me from playing more is the lack of air activity that I like.  I play if there's a good sized enemy bardar that doesn't appear to be stuck over its own base, but most evenings when I log in there's either enough bardar for 5 enemies, or half a bar somewhere under a green horde.

What about when a player has been gone so long,
that the game has changed so much, it is like starting over..

LOL "Retread" maybe???

Ive found taking a couple months away from the game in the past has retriggered my passion for the game.  Come back to new features, players, maps etc...

Im currently on 2nd shift.. so usually the action has passed by the time im done with work.  Still fun to log in on the weekend occasionally and get my fix.
