Dusk/Dawn
« on: January 08, 2018, 10:29:35 AM »
I WISH, daytime lasted longer.  I don't really want dusk and dawn to go away but it feels like the days are way to short.

Smaller maps seems to be a lot worse (shorter time between dusk/dawn)

Not sure the mechanics behind this, but yeah, Make the days longer  and nights a little shorter relative to each other.... Is it map size driven or straight time driven?

4x day
1.5xdusk
1xnight
1.5xdawn

would be my ideal... so ya know, internet forum etiquette dictates HTC and Skuzzy drop everything.    :airplane:

The time settings and multiplier is an arena setting and has no ties to the map size.

Also the main arena is set for real dates, I.E. we are currently short days do to it being winter in the northern hemisphere. So in some since you wish is granted, each day will be longer for the next 5 1/2 months.

Plus, (I think) if the map creator put lat/long coordinates into the map, everything related to day/night cycles and Sun/Moon/star positions would be accurate for that location on Earth.

That is true.  However, in practical terms if I understand correctly, a large map would have potentially longer darkness conditions depending on where you are on the map.

At dawn, the west edge of the map is much darker than the east side and the day starts with the sun below the horizon for a while.  Similarly, at dusk the east side is much darker than the west, and the day ends with the sun below the horizon for a while.

Does the day cycle go from sun coming up from the horizon if you're at the east edge and go until the sun disappears from the west edge?  Or does it use the middle line of the map as standard?

If you start the day on the west side and end it on the east, you're going to be in the dark longer on a large map than a small map.

If you think you are having a 1v1 in the Main Arena, your SA has failed you.

This is what I was getting at. Seems very different on smaller maps than larger...

There are weeks I logon and it's always dusk and my whole evening seems to be under low light conditions. Then there are weeks it's mid day and fine. I used to be paranoid about it and wondered what I did to whizz off Hitech because dusk just seemed to follow me around..... :O

I keep forgetting to ask Hitech what the best settings are to get the most sunlight into the terrain editor at 12:00. Seems the terrain editor engine follows the same settings as the MA for the sun. It's funny some times, I'll have to get up and do something away from the PC and come back to the terrain editor at dusk.

I think there is a time slider near the bottom in the terrain editor that allows you to keep the sun overhead.

It's a time of year and latitude issue. Right now it's not very bright at noon in the terrain editor versus summer. And some place on this planet has to have the sun the most vertical at 12:00 versus everywhere else during the summer. You would be surprised how much bright light helps creating topo features. I wish there was possibly a toggle to swap to that setting for the brightest arena over head sun at 12:00 or fixed like a spot light and then back to the current setting.

Wouldn't zero latitude put you at the equator and get the Sun pretty close to overhead at noon?

bustr,   Try putting in the lat. and long. for Yuma, Arizona.  It's the sunniest spot on the earth.  Put the date of the summer solstice (longest day of summer).  That should get you close.

back to the fantasy fighter world as opposed to virtual reality.   Very few planes in AH3 were used at night.  So why have It anyway?  It doesn't even replicate  nighttime very well anyway.

Not a fan of dusk, dawn or night. Seems one or all of the above happens too much and ya just can't see squat. If it went away forever I wouldn't miss it a bit.

That said the sunrise and sunset, especially with some clouds floating around, are quite pretty.
