I wouldn't consider myself top echelon pilot.  I also wouldn't consider myself a doe eyed noob.  I've participated in KOTH and while never gaining Wabbit status, or winning an event, I have been able to win individual rounds against some of the "top sticks".

When I die, it's usually because I made a mistake.  When I get a kill, it's normally because the other guy made a mistake.  Being that we're all human, the winner will be decided by who makes the least mistakes.

If you only ever play against people as good or worse than you, you'll never get any better because you have nothing pushing you.  Perhaps rather than lamenting the fact someone out flew you, try and learn what you did wrong that allowed them to beat you.  I honestly find it hilarious the main argument against this is "Someone is better than me, so I won't play!"  C'mon guys, really?   :headscratch:

I'll have no problem joining up a F2P tourney regardless of who's in the fight.

Yup.  So have I.  Now go play those same guys with $1000 on the table, and see how their game changes.

I'm honestly in awe of how completely naive some of you guys seem to be on this.

The good news for you, Jo, is HT will do what he's going to do regardless of what people say on here.  This is all just noise.

Perhaps HiTech can hand out participation trophies so those who don't have the skill to win won't feel bad for not having the same skill as someone else.   :old:

What makes you think this has anything to do with why it's a bad idea?

This game is at its best when there are many, many people involved.  More niches works against that.

Sure.  It's just the gameplay appeal of this reaches to roughly the same audience as KOTH.  The number of unique people that have entered a KOTH in the last year is what, 50?  Maybe 100?  Is stroking that many people really worth it?

Now of course, the easy money aspect will bring more people sniffing around but outside of the money tournaments what does that gain the game?  Like Jo said, a lot of the top shelf guys barely play.

All we can do is speculate on the outcome of this.

For a few it won稚 be worth it and to a few it will be worth it.

We all have the option to participate or to just leave it alone.

It will be what we, as a community, make it. So there痴 that... .

I personally cannot suggest any changes until I see what the format actually is... but what if they took a queue from games like WoW with raid rewards?  Not everyone gets the reward, but there is a random chance of a drop of specialty items with even more random drops of super-rare items.  People literally grind for months trying to get these items, making groups semi-easy to come across even for the lone players.

So what if, in addition to the winning prize, they handed out random prizes such as a Month Subscription that's drawn randomly from participants in the tourneys.  This way there can be incentive (aside from the free entry to win money) for those who may not think they're good enough to actually win.  It could drive up participation in the events, and might even show some people that they might be better than they think?

Just a thought on how to actually make it more appealing and help with the game, as opposed to just going full chicken little before anything's even been released...   :bolt:

You're still stuck on the whole "people not thinking they're good enough" thing.  Dueling is a small niche of the game.  Not because people don't think they're good enough/have egos/whatever other reason, but simply because it doesn't appeal to them.

Adding a reward to something people don't find fun or interesting does not suddenly make that activity fun or interesting for them.  They're there for the reward and interest generated in that way that generally doesn't last long.

I did mention this quietly once already but everyone seemed to miss it: there is now an Elo rating system in the relevant arena.

Why is it anyone痴 concern how much someone spends on their game equipment?

Can I quote you on that at some point in the future?  :rofl
