Oculus "Critical Error"
« on: April 10, 2018, 09:08:31 PM »
...game and rift seem to start as usual, but when I put on the headset all I get is the error box with "Sorry we couldn't update Oculus, restart your computer to try again later or visit Oculus support to get help".  Tried rebooting and also stopping and starting "Oculus Runtime Service" as suggested on Oculus web site and by Vudul in another thread, but no joy.

Also, I just checked the library, and it shows that it updated an hour ago....

Anyone else having this issue?  Solutions?  Thanks!

worst case scenario uninstall the oculus software entirely and reinstall it.

If you go that route, make sure you backup your data like settings and terrains and skins from the aces high folder if you use the oculus version. Just in case.

That's what I was afraid of, and thinking reinstall the likely next step.  Bad timing as my ISP has already choked down my download speed due to all the failed Win 10 update downloads.  Because of the issues I've been having with Win 10 updates failing (my current Win 10 install works flawlessly, but MS no longer supports it), I ordered a new SSD today (current one a bit full, and old), and was planning on a whole new clean install of Win 10, etc over the weekend or so.....

Kanth, thank you for your quick reply and the tips!

Go to the Oculus website and follow the instructions for the manual download and update, that should fix it. Worked for me.

Yep, known issue and the fix worked for me about a month ago.

I tried the patch, and was a bit skeptical, because my error message seemed to be different to what others were getting.  Bottom line, it was quick, easy and seemingly successful!   Beat the heck out of a full blown download and reinstall!     Thanks all!

Now I'll have to make sure to try it out later in the MA make myself available as a target......   :airplane:
