Is there a way to map view to an analog stick? Ive tried, and it just maps the cardinal snap movements based on range of motion, which just works better on a hat than an analog stick.

When you say "analog stick" are you talking about the big stick of a joystick?

No, I have an analog stick on my throttle I want to use for view, but AH3 seems to want to map it to snap views even when selecting analog views on the controller mapping.

It can be mapped to head movements.

Maybe Ive set it up wrong, but when using head movements, its as if the pilot is leaning forward/back/left/right and not turning his head?

Yes, head movements are more "lean" than turn, but can be useful for looking over and around the cowling or headrest.

Im wanting to replace the 8-way hat with an analog 'free look', but it seems its not possible. Im just looking for confirmation its not possible, or description of how to setup. I dont want to buy TrackIR but I may have to.

Most 8 way hats are really just 8 buttons, and not truly analog.

If the game shows 8 different "buttons" for the hat (i.e. when you move the hat to the left, it jumps to another slot in the Map controllers list, then move to the right and it jumps to another slot and so on), then the hat is not a real analog input and can only be associated to a specific view for each switch location.

You can set views to either "snap" or "pan" in the game, if that helps.

Correct. Its not the 8-way hat I want to use, but the analog stick. However, if the analog stick only uses snap, its less accurate than the 8-way.

Maybe pan is the way to go, though, and I will look into it. Pan + analog would give me the 'free look' I believe.

Thanks for the help! I will update tonight when I test it out.

When in game, try pressing F8 on your keyboard.  That may give you the free look you are looking for.

Are you referring to the "MOUSE" stick like on Throttle Quadrant on X52 pro? I use to have it set up to "Mouse View" in game. Had to do it through SAITEK's control software. This software however caused a big deal of issues about a year or so ago  :uhoh Maybe 2 years, cant remember when it was I got TrackIR :headscratch: I havent even tried it again,SAITEK's or the CH mapping software may not have same issues anymore, I just havent needed to check on it :uhoh

CH Pro Throttle?  If so, you can create a script that will allow you to use the analog mini-stick as an 8-way hat switch.

Guys, I believe what he is saying he wants is something like mouselook, where moving that stick moves the direction he's looking as opposed to the saved POV views.

Wiley nailed it. I dont want the stick to behave like a hat switch, i want it to behave like mouse. I dont see a pan option to flip it however. Sounds like 3rd party software might be my only option.

Pretty sure there are utilities on the Googles that'll let you interpret a device axis as a mouse.  Might get you where you need to be.  I was looking into it a couple years ago for another game and trackIR and it was a bit kludgy but worked ok.
