Heard reports cons N possible inbound a28 ordered RCAF to remain on station. Rogue squad was short handed only 2 pilots. RCAF 3 and JV44 with 4. I didn't want them too far north as I expected a24 p61 to be major allied objective. Rogues report lo 26s s 22 headed n at 22k with hi 51 cap.
I told rogues to drag N if needed but to try and disrupt buff formation. JV44 raced south giving up alt to get to 26s. From our 6 FunkedUp called hi cons all p47s. we danced a bit and made for cloud cover. Leitwolf was killed out right and anRky discoed.
Our fuel was critical As anRky raced South we dropped through cloud bank and headed North. We were nursing our depleted fuel tanks as we neared a25. anRky had joined us. We saw several cons just under cloud layer. I called on radio if friendlies were e 25, no reply.
Soon we had good idea they were buffs a crap load of them with p47 cover. Me and funked picked out a seperated buff and went at him.
Funked scored numerous hit on the b17s eng. I score good hits on the cockpit and left wing root. Desperate for fuel Funked went to land. I made the mistake of turning back to finish the buff as I did the buffs tail gunner took my wing.
anRky danced a bit with the 47 escorts while funked refueled and reupped. They danced some more with the 47s who remained behind as the 17s egressed. Then they went looking for the buffs. Unable to locate them they both anRky and FunkedUp rtb'b
