This triggered Zack:

The original was garbage and like all hippy liberal garbage is why we have triggering and safe spaces today.

I watched MASH (the movie) for the first time a few months ago.

I was expecting it to be good but thought it was quite bad and that it seemed like an amateur movie.  I was surprised.

Going on memory but I think MASH was a Robert Altman film and in its era would have been influenced by cinema verite and so might seem a little arbitrary and unproduced. All I really remember is that the two surgeons seemed like stuck up entitled jerks, while I think a lot of the movies popularity came from people identifying with them as hip rebels.

Perfect summary, in my view.  :aok

I once read that Paul Mantz considered this one of the most dangerous scenes he ever filmed.  The worry was that one of the B-25s might have lost an engine during the takeoff, with unhappy results for the planes nearby.

I went to read more about this, and noticed Paul Mantz died in 1965 while the movie "Catch 22" was filmed in 1970.

That aside, did bombers really take off like this in WWII?

Valid point!  I guess I was thinking of Frank Tallman.  See here:  http://www.warbirdinformationexchange.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=575

Great read! Thanks for posting that.  I really wish the film had shown more B-25 footage.  I think I read there is only 10 minutes of aerial footage.

You should see the original attempt at a tv series starring Richard Dreyfuss...
