recommendation on new graphics card

I am going to replace my 8 year old graphics card and am looking for recommendations on a new one, specifically for most efficiently running aces high. I am willing to replace ram with 16mb ddr3 and have budgeted up to $450 for a card. Would also want VR capable. Attached is my dx diag

Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti is fast and cost effective. However, regarding your budget a RTX 2070 would be even faster and better for VR. For what I found at Newegg (US) new ones start currently at $459, open box and refurbished even lower. Plus the RTX versions can handle Ray Tracing "with ease" compared to the GTX models in case you'd like to play games supporting it.

With this rather old CPU it may be rather useless to upgrade graphics unless you are planning to buy a new CPU/Board/RAM in the near future. You will likely be seriously CPU-limited in games.
Do you have a SSD in your system?

I have an AMD B.E. Q975 quad-core CPU @ 3.61 GHz , his Q970 is on par with my Q975, just a tic slower....

The thing about it is, I built an INTEL i7-2600k system to compare with my 6 month old AMD build and in actual "real world"  performance the AMD build easily stayed with the INTEL build, and sometimes out performed it, especially in AutoCAD

Only thing I would want to know is what Motherboard he is using

BTW, both of my systems were built initially with 16 GBs of DDR3 1600 MHz, and m4 crucial SSDs.... The memory has been upgraded to Crucial 1866 MHz 32GB DDR3

Bizman offered you some good choices of videocards.... If you want to go the AMD/ATI route, you can find the RX580 8 GB or RX590 8 GB videocards are VR capable and lower cost... Regarding your 470, I don't recall what capabilities that model has, but AMD R9 290X were the first VR capable GPUs AMD offered iirc

Also, you might want to check up on different Bios versions, you might find one (or more) they will help improve your MB since you are using Windows 10.... I know I did for 2 different AMD builds using ASUS MB's...

If you find that your older USB3 port lacks sufficient power for VR you can add a USB3.1 card.

So you went with ASUS' most expensive MB not counting ASUS-ROG series of boards...

That MB has the capability to go into advanced settings in the bios, to where you can tweak it to your liking, even unlock the other 2 cores that are locked out and not showing possibly

I used that same board and have never had any problems, just those AMD builds like you and I have can heat a small house, LOL

Let us know how it worked out for you and I'm curious as to which video card you chose?

If you haven't purchased a new card, Nvidia is set to release the "Super" versions of some of their newer cards.  The GTX 1660 Super is more than enough to run AH at the highest settings and most new games at 1080p.  Price is supposed to be around the $225-$250 mark depending on manufacturer SKU.

And they release the 1650/1660 Super because AMD releases the RX5500 series with more to follow. Competition is sometimes really good - newer/faster products or prices dropping.

The PCIe version will ultimately determine his graphics limitations.

It's likely 2.0 in his rig but I still don't think Aces High would require more than 2.0 if the MB and Video card are not hampered by less than optimum system settings and drivers.

Even with the PCI limitations a more modern card of higher performance works great and consumes less power.     Many PCIe versions have some amount of backwards compatibility.

You also have the Radeon RX5700 and Vega 56 - I've seen Vega's super discounted right now.

If I had a choice, GeForce RTX 2060 hands down, then the 5700 depending on price.

I would ask myself, do I want to play other games in the future, or at higher resolution than 1080p ?

If the answer to the question is yes, I would go as high as possible, otherwise I would take a cheaper approach.

A few years ago I upgraded to a GTX1080 to handle a 1440@75hz screen for AH, and CLOD, and WT tanks.

I run it on an older machine (Intel 4690 @ 4.3hz with 20gig memory, TrackIR, TM Warthog, Windows10).

Neither 2080 nor 2080S are worth buying - to little speed gain and much to expensive if compared to 2070S.
Buying a 2060 nowadays is a really bad choice giving the performance (and VRAM) gain offered by the 2060S.
Both 2060S/2070S face real competition with RX5700/5700XT
