Interesting how 'research' supposedly equates nationalism (a modern political theory) with unity (a human social condition). Is this supposed to once again equate socialism and facism? I mean, this dance step seems a bit overly complicated.

Nations and states exist because there is always gangs of loser criminals who are willing to steal everything you have and claim it's theirs. That's why the Protestants escaped Britain to start over. Then the British came to America and tried to rob them and claim its theirs. That's why we had a revolution to start a new country. It's too bad governments have rob and steal and pillage land to take for their own but that's why we have thousands of years of wars all over the world. The EU tried to rob britian and force them to trade and accept policies they didn't like, so they got voted out peacefully. Probably one of the most peaceful transfers of power in history.

Again? Sure. 17th-18th century. Less than 400 years.

Didn't realize you posted the time frame you considered as modern.

You can have a sense of national pride without having unity. I don't have to like my neighbor to love my country, I can work with my neighbor without liking him for the good of the nation.

That's not exactly what I'd define as a Nation State.  Wolves hunt in packs, that doesn't make them a Nation.

Besides, you can't have a country until you have a flag.  No flag; no country!

Good, I didn't either.

Nationalism isn't as simple as that. There's various types of nationalism.

The type that's dangerous to society is ethnocentric nationalism (or just plain ethnocentrism):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnocentrism

which is a foundation trait of:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazism

which a certain individual in this thread is confused about.  :D

Too convenient. Read the articles. Better yet, note the citations.

Why do you people who think Nazism is associated with nationalism never understand that Nazism is an ideology based on socialist communist principles? Nazis took over Poland, France, attacked Britian, and attacked Russia. Nationals my ass.

Most conservatives fought the Nazis in WW2. The only reason you want to compare us to Nazis is to take over the US with your Sovietism to destroy it. Aka "Boomers are bad" now why would most "Boomers" be conservatives?

A savage disgraceful mockingbird media that says the same thing over and over again.
Rising homelessness never before seen
Rising debt perpetuated to high school students who don't know jack crap about money.
Factories shutting down to go to mexico and Asia putting millions out of work.

Is this what you are proud of Arlo?
Is this what your socialist commies are so happy to perpetuate?

Why is Globalism so great? Do you actually believe nations would give up their sovereignty to sell out to a global government?

What kind of crack are you people smoking?

Violator, these complaints about society really suggest to me that you are looking for more Government intervention; especially the last line about American Companies shifting the manufacturing elsewhere. Did you assume that corporate executives should feel some responsibility to contribute to the community where they sell their product? I'm pretty sure that corporate community responsibility is not on the MBA curriculum.

I don't believe any Government - conservative or liberal - would ever be able to change that; and forcing them to do so smells of the Socialism you seem to hate so much; paying them to do so, I am sure you would concede would only deepen the corruption.

A government should incentivize a company to stay in America. Not create trade policies that make it better and easier to move to another country while increasing taxes on American businesses and increasing minimum wage on business so they can no longer afford to hire Americans and choose illegals instead that the left thinks is great to flood the country with.

A government is there to stop corruption and prevent unfair practices that harm Americans, not create it and benefit from pay offs they are suppose to protect the people against. If a government  can be paid off, you don't have a government. If government  sells out it's people for kick backs by allowing businesses to easily manufacture outside of the US in order to use slave labor. You don't have a government.

People who support slave labor and cheap products from over seas that are not regulated according to American standards are no different than Confederates to me. Simple as that.
