I remember when Monday night football was a big enough thing we had Monday night parties for it.

This was back when we had one anthem and the game was just the game. I remember the very first Super Bowl, there were plenty of empty seats too. The NFL used to make the commercials fit THEIR schedule and time not the other way around.

The very first SB was Greenbay vs the AFL Oakland Raiders. Bart Star was QB for the Pack, in fact the Packers played in the first two. The second vs KC, winning both easily. Then 1969 came around and Joe Namath put the AFL on the map beating the Baltimore "Yes Baltimore" Colts and Johnny Unitas.

Namath was one of the top QBs ever even while playing his career on one Leg.

Guys my age were lucky to have experienced both the rise of the NFL. The '70s were the Glory days of pro football.

My biggest sports thrill was probably the first Stanley Cup the Blackhawks won. I had just transferred to the airport detail then and the cup was always there because it would fly out to every players home for two days, a NFL tradition, so each player on a Stanley Cup winning team would have it for the two days.

Anyway I got to finally see it and we had a bunch of guys who were as rabid NHL fan's as I and we threw a little cup party when it first got there. All my life I'd waited for the Hawks to win one and they ended up winning three. I saw the cup often before retiring because they would keep it with the Police when it wasn't traveling.

Not a bad job eh? Being the guy who travels all over the world with the Stanley Cup. Yes the foreign players get it too. Its a huge hit in Russia and Europe.
