Saw on the news today CA telling its citizens to not charge their ev's as the grid cannot handle it...

All about control..

Norway is almost the size of ca minus 30 million citizens

Just because it works one place doesn't mean it will everywhere

not entirely accurate, they're asking people to not use major appliances between 4 and 9. and set ac to 78.

did you know around here between 4 and 9 they charge the most for electricity?

it seems like not trying to control anything, doesn't it.

did you know in north Carolina they won't sell beer before noon on Sundays.  and liquor can only be bought from the state?  now that's control.

I make 2-3 450 mile trips each year. I'm not interested in stopping for a half hour or more charge in the middle of that trip. Gimme that and I'm in.

Charging an EV requires 40 amps. I expect that qualifies as "major"

that is correct.  forgot to add including evs.

but we are also in the middle of a heat wave. by 10 am it feels like 1000 degrees. so far we haven't had any brown outs or loss of electricity. I have my ac set at 78 and not by choice. that's the coolest it gets when outside is 108.

but the grid is holding up, just like it does every year. and every year they ask to cut electricity between 4 and 9.

If they're asking that, the grid is over-taxed. Can't say I understand the WHY of it, but grid crash is supposed to be a nightmarish thing that requires far more than rebooting a few PC's to rectify

No they are telling you when not to charge for now...

Amazing some here try to excuse the oddest behavior regardless just to try to justify it ..

We had the same Sunday booze restrictions but evolved out of them here..and both are control otherwise you could charge your ev whenever and buy your booze at sunrise on Sunday..

I know nothing about the power grid. but I do know they're asking people to use less electricity to prevent the grid from being overtaxed not because it is overtaxed.

if the grid becomes overtaxed they have protocols to include having rolling brown outs. they normally only last a few seconds or a couple of minutes. that's what they're trying to prevent.

big difference than the grid is gonna somehow blow up.

by the way texas also asks people to use less electricity.

I may have said this before, but the most perfect scenario is to have a big enough solar array to charge an EV during the course of a day, and have 2 electric cars, one of them always on the charger

they're telling us? well I watch the local channels, I like the news. they all ask us to use less electricity.

contrary to your belief, we have no electricity police. nobody breaks down the door to make sure my ac is set to 78 or that my washer is not being use.

I was doing errands yesterday and saw no swat team at the metro station that has ev chargers to enforce the telling.

and the only people that try to control us is in your head.

that sort of thing doesn't happen unless you mistakenly sign off on it, like those people in Colorado did
