This may have had an influence on profiles, modelers, skinners...   Different unit but...

Omg Big A** Bird is a must!!! I will pay!

Perhaps Lyric can help find something on that skin?

I don't want to take away someone's favorite skin - especially since we have so many free D-40 slots available.   But I can't find any reference to this lightning bolt skin, and the skins in the game are supposed to be historically correct.

For now I'll just keep skinning the one I was working on but hold off adopting Kev's skin in hope some evidence can be found for it.   I'm sure there must be something out there - Lyric has access to a lot of info.

Well thank you but I don’t want to stand in the way of continuity lol. It’s fairly close to that B&W picture anyway. Just widen the red stripe.
Back in 2022 after a loooooong break from 2010. Old name Ratpack, same for the BBS.

Squad I did the most tours with were the Excaliburs then The 172nd Rabid Dogs. Still trying to talk Illigaf, Coola, Oldman22, and Joecrow into coming back instead of being boring old farts!

I've already skinned it, as a D-25 (no fillet in the photo).

Ah, so you can do that - a replacement skin doesn't have to match the squadron of the old skin?  I was wondering about that.

The one i replaced had bad info submitted to get it in the game and was supposed to have been removed but never was. A few of the F4U's had information that was a stretch but i went with what was there, just one was so egregious i completely replaced it.

Thank you, Lyric.  You are the skinning community's MVP for sure!

OK, it's a little weird that 42-28839 is a P-47D-28RA and yet is clear from the picture it has the tail dorsal fin.  I thought the first appearance of the dorsal fin came with the -30RA submodel.   I can only conclude some -28RAs were field modified?

At any rate, thanks to Lyric and Dadtallica, the skin 42-28839 is safe as a D-40.

Vraciu identified the 367th FG skin I am working on - "Duck Butt".  There is a plastic model of her and the box art grabbed me:

Vraciu's image of her is actually a B&W photo of the model in a diorama setting - extremely well done.   When finished she'll go in as a new submission rather than an update of an adoption.

BTW, apparently "duck butt" was slang for a short person but I have no idea who the figure in the nose art is, or why the plane was named such.  Pilot was Lt Arthur G. Witters; he stayed in the Air Force after the War and went on to build the USAF Academy in Colorado Springs.

"Big A55 Bird" is one of my favorite D-25 skins.  That one, "Coffey's Pot", "Snorting' Bull" are all terrific.  Greebo does an outstanding job with all his skins.

Thank you to all of you they are alright by me!  By the way the skin in question, 42-28839, I feel it’s one of the closet to the shiny bare metal look you were discussing in another thread.

Lol @ Duck-Butt :rofl :lol

Yes, many D-28s received a dorsal fin retrofit.
