Agreed, most modern computers need little to no tweaking for resource gain, nor over-clocking. In the past days, the game/program were more demanding than most PCs could handle. They were more designed for office type situations.
But finding and disabling background processes that cause interruptions like freezes and discos will probably always be.
My preference I use Ccleaner (not a sales pitch), I think there are similar other apps, it cleans out all temp files, updates all my drivers, software and Windows updates. So I disable a lot of bkg services and processes. When I choose it updates everything at once.
To Permanently disable Windows Update
Keep in mind you will have to update your system manually and should do so every week.
1) Open Start Menu, type Services in the search bar, and open it.
2) Locate and pick the Windows Update option from the “Services” list, then click the Stop button.
3) Change the Startup Type to Disabled by clicking on the General tab.
