It has been reported that the agent who stopped the last assignation attempt of POTUS Trump was five feet from suspect. He fired 6 times and missed each time. This is a specially trained agent. I think the agency should issue the M14 to all field agents so if they miss their target, they can use their 10lb rifle as a club to better effect!                                 
           I believe gun control is hitting what you shoot at !

I guess it's been 20 years now but when I did the CC class in Texas we were told that 80% of the first shot fired by cops in real life incidents, not training, miss.

Takes a lot of shooting to reliably hit your target under stress - especially with a pistol.  Most LEO's I know will openly say they do not train enough.  Lots of reasons for that, some good, some not, but the amount of people who do train like their life depends on it are very few.

Small muscle memory is the first out the door when under stress. Most LEOs do not practice a lot. Even with a lot of practice, there is no return fire to jack up the stress level.

That agent was walking along the fence and only noticed the barrel when he had almost walked right in front of it.   
I’m pretty sure he was moving rapidly to cover while firing in the general direction……all the while lamenting the complete lack of cover for himself.

The fear of death is why overreacting and missing the target, coupled with lack of practiced skill.

I get a chuckle out of modern gun enthusiast and their big bad AR-15s.

I remember an interview with a british army training instructor from the 80s where he talked about how there is a deep psychological aversion to killing someone. With new recruits they observed that the majority, 80% I think, unconsciously aimed to miss at human targets. He talked about how the the army had to break down peoples morality to get them to aim to kill.

There has been documentation regarding finding the majority of discarded muskets in the civil war were loaded, several with multiple loads down the barrel as the soldier thought he fired it and immediately stuffed another round down the barrel.

Something similar in WW2 where many soldiers didn't actually fire their weapon when in combat. It became one of the major points to change in training.
