Saitek X52

Well I thought Id try to set up my older Saitek stick and rudder again after a couple years. MAybe get back into a scenario or 2. Controls are very jumpy and not instantaneous during flight. I reinstalled drivers, calibrated in Win 10 again in the game . Does this eqpt go bad sitting in the closet? Do they like a diff usb connection?

Potentiometers may corrode when unused, usually some wiggling and some electronics cleaner spray will help.

Different USB connections can help. That said, if two similar looking connectors are side by side they're most likely just a single connector split in two. But if one has a black tongue and the other has a blue one they're separated and don't share the same resources.

Stored my x52 for yrs, was not the same stick when I used it again. Even took it apart and cleaned it. Very spiky.

I recklessly assume the plastics breaking down, the gases released ruin sensors. Just assuming because I had no exact answer.

On my page, the link in my sig, has a page on my stick settings for that old x52 to combat degrading. It might help. I did update the rudder settings at 40% straight across on scaling. But didn’t update the page.

Eventually I just replaced it with a VKB NXT and am in bliss with it

I let my x52 sit for  several years and when I used it again, it would randomly spike and kick the plane off autopilot. Ended taking it apart and cleaning up the guilty pot that was responsible for the spikes made all the problems go away

One of our Squaddies, DeadPool, has an X-52.    No matter what he tries, including reinstalling the stick, updating drivers, calibrating in Windows and in the game, it just won't work anymore, after working fine for years.
Super frustrating for him.

Control surfaces seem to work on the runway, but, as soon as he takes off, he has no control.

I know the pain. I just bought a VKB Gladiator and now in bliss. I think is the pastics used that x52 don’t seem to age well.

Yes..  I use the VKB also.  Excellent stick.  The red thumb button on mine got to where it took a lot of pressure to work.  I cleaned it with contact cleaner and that seemed to help.

I love it, I use zero dead bands, damping, or scaling, except for 50% cut across the board scaling on rudder

Ya, sweat and dust make a mud, when it dries more builds on it.
I tend to use "Rubachem" contact cleaner. Ya have to be careful because others can will melt plastics. What some use on mixing consoles.
