The thing that really struck me was how radio communication broke down early on because of the overloaded communication system, and the fact that someone in their living room watching CNN had more information than those on the scene.

I think they marketed the program in a foolish way. To me, the program was 100% about the firemen and the job they did. But from the TV ads it made you think that it was just about the buildings collapsing. It was a much better program than I had anticipated.

Only point I want to make about the broadcast is this. Many in this country and around the world need to be reminded WHY we are in Afganistan right now.

I couldn't see it at home as I had to be on the road. I have it taped (I hope) and will watch it next weekend.

I watched it, very good documentary. Were there firemen trying to rescue the people trapped on the upper floors? All I saw on the program were the firemen in the lobby. I could hear the bodies of people jumping out of windows smashing into the ground. Also, what killed the Chaplain?

Moose, CBS has the rights to air it one more time. They have not yet announced when that will be.

There were many firemen who started up the stairwells when they arrived at the Trade Center. I heard at least one say during the program that they got to the 20th floor before the other tower collapsed and they were told to evacuate.

All of the reports that I have read state that Chaplain Judge was killed by falling debris. I wonder if there were other firemen in the lobby of #1 that were killed when #2 collapsed.

yes

what's strange is the fact that the plane hitting the other tower (2), causing it's collapse before tower 1, actually saved all of the lives of the fireman at the station in the documentary... otherwised they'd been crushed when tower 1 collapsed with them on the upper floors helping others/fighting the fire..

One of the firemen commented on that. They knew that the elevators were down so they began to go up on foot.

They said it took approximately one minute per flight of stairs. The crash in WTC 1 was somewhere near the 80th floor...

That's 80 minutes. Awful long time to be stuck in a fire.

I think if someone is forgetting about how mad we should be about this and why we need to be hip deep in everyone elses business, then they need to watch the unedited version of this Documentary.
We all know why CBS put the thing on and that was for ratings...but I still feel that America does not understand the severity of what has happened to us. This was a warning plain and simple. It may have not been intended as one but I would say that the biggest point I got out of it is that we better start paying attention to more than just why the Sunday paper wasn't on the front porch and what color is my new car going to be.

I have a chance to talk with young folks and I can not believe they have the nerve to tell people they would run to Canada if their nation asked for their help. But I am USMC through and through so I would say I am a little biased on that point.

The documentary was more than I expected and with out editing it would have been enough to scare every man and woman in this nation so badly....well I am just thankful that this documentary was edited.

Ripsnort.....your an awesome father. I bet your kids appreciated you reading to them too:)

I am with you on your post. If I am faced with someone who say's they'd run to avoid fighting I'd have to end the conversation right there to avoid demonstrating to them the futility of cowardice.

being from NYC and living near it, I had mixed emotions.

9/11 was very difficult for my family and most of us in the tri-state area. from the moment the first tower was hit our phone did not stop ringing for weeks. it became horrible just to answer the phone because you knew it would be someone saying "so-and-so is now missing."

the actual event itself was mind-boggling. but oddly enough, its those small personal moments that seem to be the most pronounced. like not being able to reach family for 2 days because the phone lines were overloaded. or, on 9/13 the smell and ash started falling on my town covering everything.

i could go on and on. all i know is that it will take some people years, if ever, to get over the actual events.

the documentry was well done and tasteful. if there is such a thing for such an event. all the photos of people burning and jumping out of the WTC have been hidden away somewhere.

thank goodness. however, despite how ugly those photos might be....maybe the whole world really needs to see the un-edited version so everyone can really understand what terrorism can do.

next time someone complains about the USA being war mongers bring them to NY- make them stand in a 14 acre burned out hole in the ground located in the middle of a major city and then rub their faces in the corpses of the 11 Firemen that they found today, 6 months after 9/11.
