I had to LOL when hblair said he got 12 emails...hehehe. No offense hblair but I get that many every coulpe of hours.

I've been outclassed! :)

Sounds like I got out of the ISP business just in time.  I currently have just over 2000 lines in my /etc/mail/access file.  It's pretty impressive.

Typically I block out IPs and blocks of IPs rather than addresses.  I also use a different mail address for everything and alias them.  When one gets on a spam list I redirect the alias to /dev/null.

It's all just a game.  Windows is probibly the biggest waste of money ever written, but it keeps quite a few people employed.  Just think of all the people who make their living either sending or blocking spam.  Same thing, only different.  :p

Geez, Puck,...only 2,000?  I have just over 78,000 in the list now and it grows by about 250 to 500 per day here lately.  My blocks include IP's, blocks of IP's, domain names, email user names, combination of user and domain names, and subject lines.

ccvi, you only risk being blocked if you try to directly send email from your computer with it acting as the SMTP server, and not using the ISP's SMTP server.

Oh, and I get about 800 SPAM messages per day, but I have intentionally set myself up to get SPAMMED so I can try to catch the monsters before they can hit my clients.

ORBS is pure BS.

One of the guys that ran the NZ list added competitive ISPs into the list (he ran his own ISP). So we had 3-4 legit ISPs who were getting email blocked from ORBS even though they weren't spamming and didn't have open mail relays.

Sendmail is a wonderful toy.

I had loads of fun with it back when I was running the network for an ISP :D

Yes, but you're an ISP ho.  I have three sites to worry about; soon to be two.  Home, work, and the California office.  Once my Windoze guy figures out why ActiveD doesn't like the RFC1918 addresses in California they end up on a dedicated point to point and I only have one office and home to worry about.

I'm also pretty careful about giving out my address.

Personally I like UserFriendly's solution to the spammers, even if Spamford Wallace survived.  My ex actually had her site hosted by him at one point, and I chatted with him on occasion.  Blech.

Got an email from the accounting department at iEn this morning, apologizing for the repetitive emails.
I am more than a little surprised at getting any response at all from them.

Hmm, I haven't received even one spam in 4 years.. I must be doing something wrong.. :)

OTOH I did get spammed to my work address, I was stooped enough to include my e-mail addy for web administering contact. Some webbots kept spamming me after that.
