Reading Radar...(avoiding gangbang)
« on: April 17, 2002, 11:22:12 AM »
So a follow-up to avoiding gangbang.  How does the Radar exactly work.  The radar at a friendly base provides coverage for that entire sector right (when it's up).  When it goes down the sector that the radar is in no longer can see cons but u can see friendly's right; the other sectors are covered still as long as their's is still up.  How about seeing into a sector that does not have any friendly bases?  Can u see into that sector with radar?  Also the colored bars (red and green) are independent of radar and still work even if the radar is down.  The bars include ground veh. etc. right?  So if I see a "red bar" in a sector and no red dot's that means that the radar is gone but there are con's up or that they are all ground veh's and the radar is working.

"Dot dar" (the moving red/green dots) shows the position of enemy aircraft above 500 feet AGL, and within 12.5 miles (current settings in the MA), of a working radar tower, and the position of ALL friendly aircraft.  "Bar dar" (the stationary red/green squares) shows the number (NOT position) of enemy/friendly aircraft and ground vehicles within a map sector.

Dot dar can be disabled locally by destroying the radar tower at a field.  Both dot dar and bar dar can be disabled globally by damage to a country's HQ building.  Enemy dot disappear first, then friendly dots, enemy bars, and firendly bars last.

So, if you see an unidentified plane in the distance, and there is no green dot in his general location on dot dar -- it is an enemy plane.
