I'm curious about that myself.

Even with a shared 56k connection to verify logins, the host is still on the 'net and not local so it wouldn't be feasible that way, either..

I liked the 1v1 tcpip support in Warbirds, but if there was any way to have 4v4 over a lan I'd be in love..

Not quite sure what you are referring to.

In AH, H2H play is actually connected through HTC's server.  You cannot connect one peer directly to another.  That means that unless you have access to the internet and HTC's server, you will not be able to play against live opponents.

I *think* the H2H feature just uses HTC's server to initiate the connection--it keeps track of who is hosting games and tells clients where they can connect to.  Once in game, packets should travel directly across your LAN from client to host.  So yes, you should be able to plan on a LAN, but you need to use H2H, and the server should be on the internet.  The clients *might* work through NAT, but they will work if they have separate internet IPs, and not NAT IP addresses.

Hmm... I'm curious if this would work.  Running WinGate on the "host" machine, or some other proxy, Internet Connection Sharing for example... then have the clients connect via HTC using H2H.  Anyone ever try that?

Darn.  If your ISP will give you more than one IP address, you'll be in business.

There will never be a LAN version of AH, if I understand correctly. This has to do with hacking, and what was done to the LAN portion of WB (which HT wrote).

My brother and I access AH with our computers using a third machine running Wingate that connects to the internet using a 56k modem.  We have had no problems other than a crappy Bellsouth internet account.
