Seafire on Allied CVs please
« on: June 02, 2002, 11:54:45 PM »
The LW has 205s and 190s, why dont we have SeafireIIs on the allied CVs, just Hurricane IIs? I would like a proper CV fighter with a hook.

Thanks.

S!

Actually the Germans and Italians have no fighters on CV's,  they have no planes on them at all since the Italian Navy didn't have a Carrier.  So the Brits are one up on the Germans anyway.

As far as the Brits are concerned, the Seafire was not really in service until the invasion of Sicily.  Until then the Sea Hurricane II, (which was identical to the Hurricane IIc except for the tailhook) was filling in.  The Grumman Wildcat was also used by the British at this time, although they called it the Martlet.  But we'll have to wait till 1.10 to get it.  :)

Well, I dunno how many 205s there were prior to Sicily either? How about a Seafire for 3 perks, same as a SpitfireIX then?

S!

The perks can only be set by Pyro, the CT staff don't have the ability.  So at the beginning of the week, it is set, and that's that.  I don't want to bother him again.

But I will consider a perked Seafire next next time.

(along with the Wildcat and P-40 as well...  :)  )

By the way, the MC205 is perked because it was actually not used in Tunisia.  But it was available in Italy, and could have been transferred in.

The Spit IX is available perked because it was relatively rare in N Africa at this time.

S! Squire

By the way, if you are running a FAA Squadron, you should know about the Sea Hurricane.

Some of the FAA's best known and most valiant actions were fought using Sea Hurricanes.

One of the most notable was 'Operation Pedestal', which was the escort of a relief Naval Convoy to Malta in the summer of 1942.

Here is a page which includes details of the Sea Hurricanes in FAA service:

http://www.faasig.org/tech/seahurricane.htm

Here is a site with a detailed history of 'Operation Pedestal':

http://www.usmm.org/malta.html

I expect to do a setup which is modelled on 'Operation Pedestal' in the near future.
