Guys, I'll admitt that there are way too many people that cry "CHEATER!!" or "HACKER!!!" at the first hint that they've been out flown.  I think most of you will agree that I'm usually the first one to say "got film?"

But don't kid yourself and think that it doesn't happen.  And its probably alot more common than you think.

SpeedHacks (very common in shooters, and hard to detect),  playing with your connection, and even custom built packet filters/memory editors for individual games. They're out there, and people use them.

And realize that unless they're extremely stupid, there is no way to have "proof", because its subtle. For instance using the speed hacks with a hotkey and increases your internal clock speed by 1.5 only when in trouble, and the connection squeezers/packet filters can always be blamed on "netlag".

Its real, and they're out there.  Just not as commonly as is blamed on Channel 1 ;)

We know their real Verm... but they are far less common in pay 2 play games than in other games... such as Il2 where speedhack was the talk of the town for a while, and in FPS games where the script kiddies reside.

I'll say this much, if anyone hacks that I've flown against... they need new cheats/hacks, cuz they ain't workin'.

But you know just as well as I do Verm, that the first thing someone does when they get beat and they don't understand how... they yell hack or cheat over the comms or post it on a BBS somewhere.

Leviathon...
the screen shot u posted makes me wonder.... do you take seriously everything u see on channel 1?
JB42 is my CO and has been flying for over 6 years in various sims. back in the aol air warrior days his squad "the Jabostaffel" had a base named after them. i know alot of pilots here have known him for a long time and know that he is a stand up palyer, giving credit where credit is due.
personally i was online back when he typed that message and if you didn't see the "LOL" right away after the "cheater" message i hope you look again. he was mearly poking jest at being bested by another pilot the way alot of newbies do. in other words he was having fun... isn't that what this game is all about?
both he and i have yet to wittness an actual cheater though we've all heard the myths of variable throttle and 100's of bombs.
on a personal note Jb42 and i share a common thought about cheating... if you have to cheat to play a game you need to find another game to play
I don't know what to put here yet.

I could use the speed cheat in *any* Windows game I desire... with virtually no chance of being caught.

What's amazing is I stumbled onto the method while working on a non game related PC issue.....and after searching the net for info it appears no one has exploited it for cheating.

I'll never use it, and won't tell anyone how to either....so don't ask.  :p

Do you?  I view such accusations, heartfelt or not, with amusement.  It is, after all, a compliment of sorts.  However, you also fail to mention that JB42 persisted well beyond his initial statement.  The "joke" wore thin after awhile, especially when it served as an enabler for Rauml to spam Channel 1 about my purported cheating.

Yes, but having fun by accusing others of cheating is not the proper way to enjoy oneself in AH.  And it sure seemed like he wasn't joking after awhile.

I agree 100% there.  Hell, I don't even raise my view position for snapshots over the nose... seems like too much work when I can just learn to do it the old fashioned way.

I've attached more of last night's hilarity to the end of this message.

Durr said:

As I crashed, I looked up at the text buffer to see that I was being accused of cheating by two or three of the enemy pilots.  They all claimed to have seen me "conveniently warping on demand" as I evaded them in the three minute fight.

Same thing happens to me rather frequently.  I go running for my life doing every jink and roll I can do that doesn't kill too much speed and hopefully will spoil their aim just enough that I'll live long enough to out-run them.  And no matter whether or not I live or die, if I make them miss even once, I usually get accused of "warp rolling" or "warp on demand".

There is, AFAIK, no such thing in reality.  Instead, my studied opinion is that there's some big jump in plane model detail or something similar that kicks in when you close to about 200yds.  Which of course corresponds to when most people are trying to shoot.  If your video settings ain't perfect, this can cause a big FPS loss and make the target suddenly start jumping all around, nearly impossible to hit, especially if it's jinking and rolling like mad.

It's really insidious because at all other times your FPS can be great, including flying around low over burning airfields and fleets.  So you think your settings are fine.  Then you're chasing a plane and everything's cool until just as you're starting to squeeze the trigger, and suddenly he's blinking and stuttering and you can't hit him.  Because you think you're video's fine, it must be something on the target's end.  And because it happened just as you were shooting, it must have been intentional, so you call him a cheating bastard.

Even more insidious, your settings might be able to handle a 1-on-1 chase of a jinking target, but suppose you're in a dweeb mob chasing me or Durr at low alt as described above.  Now you've got several friendly planes all within very close, high-detail, FPS-sucking range of you.  Plus all the tracer they're putting out and the dust and splashes from missed shots, plus ground clutter maybe, etc.  So you and all the friendlies around you have major FPS problems and nobody can hit the target, which is visibly stuttering and blinking and doing strange things due to your low FPS.  The target's continued survival looks even more improbable than in the 1-on-1, due to the volume of bullets going by him, so the stuttering looks all the more deliberate, especially because it doesn't happen to you 1-on-1.  So now you not only call the target a cheating bastard, you send the film to HTC.

Hm.  This thread is getting stale.  Better spice it up with yet more definitive proof of my cheating courtesy of Rauml, still going strong one hour after his initial tirade last night.  :)

We don't give people popups to warn them of their cheating, we bar them from playing.  If you're going to try to cheat, why would we warn you about it?  That's not the kind of person we want playing this game.  The difficulty in cheating is to cheat and be undetected.  Cheating extends much further than just hacking the client.  We do deal with mem hacks, and hardware and speed hacks, from time to time.  We're very clean because of the clientele we attract, the subscription requirement, and the means we use to police it.  We don't discuss it generally because it's a problem we want to fight on a personal level, not a technological one.  Our anti-cheating approach is to use tech as a means to the end, not the end itself, and that's why we choose to be discreet about it.

IMO, to cheat is the most disrrespectfull action you may do into a simulator (a bit worse than flying spits ;) ).
IMO, the punishment should go further than just banning then quietly, their existence hurts any community more than anything else. Post their nicks in a black list, post their e-mails, dont ban them, just mark their planes with a general pink icon for enemies and friendlies and deactivate the killshooter for them, let our guns do the work

I'm glad they will have the new anti-cheating software active in 1.10.  Just click the new "I need a trainer" button.
