On the subject of "Cheaters"
« on: June 17, 2002, 12:31:59 PM »
I have been called a cheater in this game and even moreso in another.  Virtually every time it happened, the individual calling me a cheater "confirmed" my cheating by insisting he could duplicate the cheat himself.  Many were quite insistant on this.

Imagine how odd it is to see this when you weren't cheating at all.  What does that tell you about those running around screaming "cheat" at virtually every opportunity?

It told me quite a bit about another community... and it is beginning to tell me quite a bit about some members of this one.

I think my dog is cheating on me.

He doesn't listen to me.
He comes home smelling of neighbors milk bone.
He's not marking the yard like he used to, but instead drifts over to the fence staring into the yard next door.

What am I to do?

How to I bring him back to me.

Does that mean there are NO cheaters?

There are cheaters/hackers around Mighty1... but do they exist in the numbers people make it out to be? Not at all.

Do they reside in this game? Not for very long. It's usually easy to tell who's cheating and who isn't... just because you got outflown doesn't mean the other person is cheating, all programs have checksums to test for program modification or corruption. It ain't easy to modify a program without it either not running, or without it to not be detected.

I got called a "cheater" last night for the first time..........I blushed with pride.  My crowning moment, being called a cheat because some guy couldn't figure out how I kilt his ack hugging butt over his own field with the 5" guns on a CV.
Most folks who make the "cheater" allegations simply don't understand what happened to them, thus, whoever killed them is a cheater.

Not at all.  It means that there aren't nearly as many cheaters as there are accusations.

and don't forget the cheat that is defined as gaming the game cheat. there are those that think when you take advantage of an aspect of a game that it is "cheating".  i know... a whole other can of worms...and i ain't gonna open it.

The problem is that there ARE cheaters here just like any other game and it's not always easy to tell if someone is cheating or is just flying well.

I don't go around yelling cheater to everyone who kills me but there are several people who I KNOW are cheating and get away with it.

To many cheerleaders out there that will defend someone even though they weren't around to see the cheat and don't believe the proof that was put in front of them.

I don't make a big deal about it because it wouldn't do any good.

Being called a cheater by any long time and vocal AH veteran is the ultimate complement!

I'm an M3 cheat 'cause I killed his FW engine

You got proof mighty1? Where'd you post it? I'd like to see it. Fact is, I ain't no cheerleader... I am a computer guy though. I know how they work. I know how programs are designed, and I know how they can be damaged very easily by hacking..

So just remember that before you call someone a cheerleader, they may just have a much better grasp on how computers operate and how programs are designed than you.

However, if your proof is that he started co-alt and co-e and same speed as you, I won't believe it's a hack or a cheat. Simply because certains planes have more drag and this can lead to certain planes bleeding energy faster than others. Then, on top of that, the internet is no more reliable than a car that's never had it's belts, oil & oil filter, air filter, fuel injector and starter plugs changed/cleaned.

You know... every single person that has ever called me a cheater has said something very similar.

Yet they were still wrong.

And to this day not a single one realizes it or would even acknowledge the possibility.

Its amazing how deeply rooted ignorance can be.

I've never had anyone call me a cheater. Not even Fester, who is always cordial with me, regardless of who wins or loses. In fact, I have experienced very little poor behavior. It's rare that I hear any whining directed my way, with the exception of the occational newby dismayed at why or how he died. Even then, they only want to understand how they got smacked.
