Because the Ki-67 is 2 years past the time period we're in.  It's as fast or faster on the deck than any other plane we'd be using and it sports better cannons than the Zeke does.  TBM is obviously better than Kate and the Devastator, but if both sides have them, it'll balance out better.  Plus the TBM-3 does 250 (265 WEP) on the deck vs the Ki-67's 280-285 on the deck.

The Ki-67 entered service after the DHog and Hellcat.  It doesn't need to be flying around in an event with Wildcats, IMO.  It'd be like using Spit IXs in the Battle of Britain against the 109E and 110C.

edit:  we really need Kate, Betty and the Devastator to make early Pacific doable with no "gross" substitutions.  An early B-17 would help too, as would a Ki-43 (possibly even Ki-27 if you really wanna get early Burma down pat!)  We've used the Ju 88A-4 for the G4M Betty in the past, but I'm not keen on that due to the payload and speed advantages of the Junkers over the Betty, plus I figured one substitution (TBM) was enough.

Well, the Ki-67 is the *only* IJ level bomber there is right now. We need the G4M Betty, but it makes a fine stand in under the circumstances I think.

With max fuel and heavy loadout, its workable I think?

As for the BoB, well, we did that with the LW bombers 100 percent Ju88s vs a lot of HurricaneIs. I dont see Ki-67 vs P-40E and F4Fs as any worse than that was . They have 6 x 50s to boot as well, not .303s.

I might try some TA stuff with the squad, see if its doable to take them on in P-40s with a bit of alt.

Either way, looking forward to it, should be a fun event, as always! :)

Regards.

no need to test it Squire.  We've seen it in the CT this weekend.  In fact, Daddog took up a flight of Ki-67s to use as bait, and well, let's say that he didn't really need our help.  ;)  Not that we could catch up to help him anyways!  lol!  Remember, the Ki-67 has 20mm cannons for defense as well, very unbalancing for the time frame.

The thing about the Ju88s in the BoB is that the Ju88 was actually in the BoB.  The difference is we have the A-4 instead of the A-1 that was in the BoB.  The A-1 had a max speed of 286mph at 16,000 ft.  If you look on our speed chart for the A-4, the max speed tops out at about 290 at 16,000 ft, very similar.  At 16,000 ft the Hurricane I goes about 320mph (according to HTC speed chart) and Spit I about 340mph (Spit gets faster as it goes a bit higher too.  Hurri maxes out around 16,000 tho).

F4F-4 is the main US fighter in this TOD. (below all from HTC charts)
sea lvl speed - 280mph
max lvl speed - ~325mph @ ~19,000ft

Ki-67
sea lvl speed - 280mph
max lvl speed - ~335mph @ ~19,000ft

to be fair, I'll do the P-40E, even tho only one squad will get them per frame.
sea lvl speed - 280mph (300mph WEP)
max lvl speed -  ~340mph @ 15,000ft (~355mph @14,000 WEP)
max speed at 19,000ft - ~330mph

Believe me, I didn't dismiss the Ki-67 idea before I brought up the TBM idea without consideration.  However, after looking at the planes' specifications, along with seeing first hand how the Ki-67 performs in the CT vs Wildcats I felt it was too unbalancing for this setup.

I see your point but if I may...

CT pilots rolling singly and getting a max alt of 10k (usually) isnt the same as a TOD or Snapshot where the CAP climbs to 25k and waits for a raid.

I flew Ju88s in the CT too, and rarely had RAF fighters get to me for the same reason. In the TOD though, it was a different story.

I see your reasoning, and dont disagree with it, its just I figure there is a workaround with bomber ceiling, loadout, and the fact that whole squads are in the air, with alt, at the same time.

P40s diving from 22k can get 450 TAS very quickly. So can F4Fs. One pass, deal with the escort, rtb. Thats how it was in RL too.

Perhaps a Snaphot to give them a whirl? that would be in order I think, sometime down the road. I thought Rangoon could have done with a 9 flight of Ki-67s, coming in at 15k, just to liven the place up :)

I hope you dont mind these posts, It wasnt my intention to hijack the thread. I will cease here.

Regards.

Nightmares VMF-101 and friends are in. I will start rallying the troops today. I think we can still field 21-25 pilots so keep us at that level (that is what is in are dossier too).

I look forward to this .. I can fly in this one and don't have to sit on the sidelines as the Setup CM!

Nightmares will fly either side but our preference would be Allies.

No Ki-67 this time around.  We might try it in a later snapshot and see how it works.  :)  I don't mind these posts at all.  In fact I welcome them.

However, you ain't changing my mind for the Ki-67 for August 1942.  You will have much better luck convincing me it's ok to pretend the Iron Crosses on the Ju-88 are actually the red meatballs on a G4M Betty.  :D

sure thing Ghostdancer.  21-25 it is.  We'll see about sides.  only 10 squads of 18 have posted so far, and most have wanted Allied.  :)  I'll have to get with Skernsk and find out who got snubbed last time.

Concerning the TBM, choice 'A' - no substitutions.

We'll fly either Axis or Alllied, where ever we are needed.

Wouldn't it be awesome if 3 plane box SBDs were enabled?

AI follow code prolly couldn't keep up in the dive and pullout.  Not to mention unless they follow you line astern, their bombs will be off target of the ship unless you went for a broadside shot (gives more error to miss short or long though).

Sounds like they're going to give TBMs the formation option once HT codes the CV takeoff.

TBM:  My vote is for both sides.  Like Daddog said, we need the high and low going on in the frames.  And I agree Nifty, the KI is a poor substitute for some slow torpedo bomber with a pea-shooter out the back.  It's not their speed that worries me, it's the whallop they pack!
