I have been reading the posts on the bombing since the new version came out. First, let me say that I can get used to any new way of doing things given enough time and practice -- so the new sighting procedures can be overcome.
Something just seemed baffling to me over the new bombing, and it took a few days to hit me what it was. The "Norden" bombsight took into account (if calibrated correctly) airspeed, wind direction, bomb weight, drift, target alt, aircraft alt and drift. If everything was entered correctly, the bombsight would fly the plane and automatically make small corrections (turbulence and swaying due to flak explosions) and stay on target. It also (unlike seen in the movies) automatically dropped the bombs at interval set at the right time to hit the target based on the imput calculations. Quoted by designers and trainers as being able to drop a bomb from 30k into a 100 ft radius.
With all that said, bombing with the new sighting procedures is still dead reckoning at this time. It still is based on the person releasing the bombs at the right time in order for the bombs to hopefully "angle in" and hit the target. If manual "pushing the button release" is being used, more fun I think, then why go through all the calibration procedures in the name of challenge, realism or skill, must I still go through calibration if the sight doen't give me a drop point to release and have to dead reckon anyway? I think that was the whole purpose of the sight to begin with when developed in real life, to take away dead reckoning and improve accuracy.
Dont get me wrong, I will adjust to what is there as said before.
If anyone wants references and/or information on the norden sight and how it works, let me know and I will give you the sites for it.
