250? We're short, let go binary. He's my push for it.

Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".

A real tear jerker. Let's cut out the roadkill, finally. Did a tornado strike all these people and whisk them away to Gamestorm? Did a tidal wave wash them up on the shores of EA? Most of the people on BB's list haven't flown AW in years, including BB. Maybe if they had, those of us who have been flying for the past 10 years wouldn't have had to watch our favorite game go down the tubes.

The truth is that the Cods of AW sold their souls to the devil, and dragged those of us who were left down to hell with them.

But I've been reborn. Aces High is what AW would have become, had the heart of the community not been cut out of it. But it was suicide, people - no big bad bogey man came out of the closet and did it.

Now it's time to bury Air Warrior. It's done. We aren't Air Warriors anymore. We are now Aces Highers, or however you want to say it. All of us, the people who have been flying AH for 2 years, the people who flew WB, the people who flew Air Warrior and the people just coming here out of the blue, we are the community now. You old time AH folk have no choice but to move over and let us in, and you Air Warriors who are grieving and feeling stunned to have crash landed here have got to get over it. AW is dead. Let it go.

Stil, I don't think you have enough information on why some of us moved on to be able lay blame for AW's demise like that. Don't forget that many of us contributed untold amounts of time and money (in terms of connect charges while working for the game) with no compensation whatsoever for years.

I was *just* coming in on the great AOL gold rush as you were fading into "recent memory"/"lamented absent COD" staus in AW,
so I'm not sure of your *particular* circumstances.  But, I saw a few of the "paid good money only to contribute to AW types (like DD and Tex) go away and it always seemed to involve Kesmai/EA forgetting who the "made guys" were and having some flocking loyalty to "friends of ours" as the suit climate encroached.

There was some of that, Ratbo. There were other things involved too. Suffice to say that people move on for a reason.

You know, Gonzo - you're right. I don't have all the info. Maybe if info had been more forthcoming, those of us who were still committed to the game could have saved it. Instead, we were fed a line of roadkill by Kesmai, by Gamestorm and by EA, while in our guts we saw AW's death approaching.

Doesn't matter why people moved on. They moved on. (How do you move on, anyway? Either you fly, or you don't.) My point is that the ancient history of AW, and the fond memories of people who quit flying AW years ago, have very little to do with what's happening here in AH.

And as for money: I spent my thousands on Compuserve and AOL, learning to fly AW. I devoted a good chunk of 9 months of my life, organizing the 1998 AW Con, went into debt hosting it, and almost lost my business. I too was paying my monthly tab to Kesmai/Gamestorm all that time. So what? That has nothing to do with anything, either.

AW became what it did because people were committed to the community - the power of it induced people to fly, even when they really didn't feel up to it because of sickness, burn-out or weariness. But the community was destroyed, when it got sold out to greed and corporate bean counters. It's all over now.

Now we have an opportunity to build a brand new community, hopefully one that will combine the best of the old AW and the new AH. I'll work toward that, but I think we've all learned that a community cannot survive without information and truth. I hope we get that here.

Far as I know, you guys are joining an already established community, not "building a brand new community". We've been building it for over two years, you guys are just the latest immigrants, allbeit a big shipload, but still just an addition.

OK. Step back a second. For the player-contributors who moved on (meaning went on to other games, Real Lives, whatever ...) they still left friends at KesStormCorpCoA - so revealing what went on behind the scenes often wasn't in anyone's best interest. And in some cases, wasn't anyone else's damn business. Granted, the lines of communication funneled down to a quarter the thickness of a pubic hair by the time EA got hold of it, but you surely realize that full disclosure isn't always viable.

Blaming the departed-player contributors for the demise of the game is not much better than the game company failing to recognize their contributions, IMHO. Many left because of the lack of recognition and/or reward - so blaming them for the obvious result of their leaving is just more displacement of responsibility.

As for "selling of souls," I think there's less worry of that with Aces High. HT/Pyro are certainly smart enough to see what's happened to AW and WB to not repeat the mistakes of a poorly conceived buy-out. And the price of hosting infrastructure is cheap enough now that they really don't Big Brother to run their network on - a luxury Kesmai didn't have, BTW. So HTC has a much better shot at not being financially forced to lose control of their product.

As for "truth" - HT is a pretty brutally honest fellow. I haven't seen any lack of information flow from HTC. But you do need to recognize a few things in this regard. One is that this is a business as well as a passion. HT sunk a lot of his own money into it. If someone offered him millions to buy HTC, I don't think anyone would blame him for taking it. Next, there are different levels of communiction - HT will discuss some things with people like BB and me that they may not discuss with others. There will always be different levels of communication - that doesn't mean secrets are being kept. That's just life.

"Its all over now"? The community isn't. The AW chapter has finally (mercifully) closed is all. In the years since I left AW, I've run into the same players on WB, AH, GPL, Tribes, and all kinds of other games. Even started a company with a handful of these folks. When the AW Con' was in Dallas a couple of years ago, HT and I both dropped by - at the same time, as a coincidence.

The game changed, the Game we play didn't.

Uh, Stil...I'll take exception to that "sig"
where AW is concerned. The "real" Stiletto that
was referred to in BB's dialog, I believe,
flew DOS AW a good many years ago.

If I dig around here deep enough I can probably
come up with his tail number and GEnie email
address but I think some of the others here might
even have that info on the top of their head.
If not here, then shirley, over in BigWeek.
