Well...it being a long day at work, I was thinking about the thread on crude language, and what can be done to curve this.
Well...in my opinion, what can be done requires no time or programing. The thing few understand is the reason WHY people swear online. Just like in reality, swearing for no reason accomplishes nothing, just as it does here.
Think about it...why would someone swear online? I'll use my school as an example. Swearing in such places is an attempt by the person to either a.) act cool or b.) push someone's buttons. Here, it seems that those who cannot handle the fighting and/or furballing will swear, seeming as they usually can't do one thing such as fighting. This boosts their ego, as they feel better about themselves knowing they put someone else down.
The other is the type that simply enjoys getting on someone else's nerves. They love seeing other people angry, and enjoy it more if they are the ones that caused it in the first place. These are the guys who will swear until they turn blue...as long as they make someone mad.
Both of these example thrive off of one thing, which is responses. Respnses is what drive these people to their own euphoria. They are the real attention starved people. The more attention they get, the better they feel, knowing that everyone is stirred up because of them.
So here's my Not So Time Consuming solution. Ignore them. And I mean totally. No "Shut up..."...no "Piss off.." nothing. The less these people hear the less they swear. It's a fact. If they know that they cannot get on your nerves, then the game is no longer fun. I know we've said squelch them, but this seems to be along the same lines.
Don't give them the attention they thrive on, they go away...simple as that. I know this is a long waste of letters but it was just something I thought of at work.
And anyways...it's just IMO...
