The Me-262A-2a, the 'Sturmvögel', which was the variant fitted with bomb racks, was a separate model from the Me-262A-1a 'Schwalbe'. In addition to the two bomb racks and the internal hardware to control the bomb release, the A-2a had the upper pair of 30mm Mk 108 cannon removed.
There were also two 'schellbomber' designs that never left the drawing board. The first eliminated all the armament and moved the cockpit forward into the space previously occupied by the cannon for additional visibilty for the pilot. The second retained the cockpit in its position, but added a bulged fairing beneath the fuselage in which the bombs rested in recesses, reducing their drag.
