Most of the Veterans in beta were from Warbirds, Pyro and HiTech created Warbirds, then left, a few of us followed them here after they re-opened shop.

I was playing WB's and kept hearing about a new sim Pyro and gang were working on. I hadn't heard too much until one day someone posted on the WB bulletin board that AH was going pay for play. About a week later I downloaded and tried it out and have been here ever since.  :D

Best fun I've had in a long time. Though I wish I didn't suck at it so much.  LOL:p

Back then WB had pay-per-hour pricing, which kept some of us on duel ladder. As soon as AH went beta (Oct 1999), I started playing.

It was fun indeed, you could find a duel even in small beta map.

I visited from AW durin beta.... Found it hell ... was lucky to get off the ground, once up i couldn't hit anything... and then when it came to landings I always broke my gear... So went back to aw +)

Came back for 2 week trial Around 1.02 I think...  abused the trial, stayed for a month...  Went back to Aw3 until I could afford AH.

Left Aw3 just prior to Awmv's release, and never looked back

Hmmm, looooong ago I heard about Air Warrior in its orginal guise and the idea was hugely appealing to me. I even got a CD-ROM version of AW3 somewhere, never did much with it, couldn't play on-line back then. Somewheren back in time I also heard about Warbirds, that must be about six years ago... how time flies.

With things like the pay per hour concept, the steep learning curve I was expecting and the fact that I didn't have cable back then, I never bothered to play on-line.

Few weeks ago I was surfing around a bit and came across AH, with it's easy set-up, free download and two weeks free on-line play. I tried it ( 8 days now) and keep on getting shot down (of course).  Still come back for more though.

So it took me at least 8 years to play flight sims on-line, but better late then never.

A lifetime obsession?

Well, as a little boy I was already obsessed with aircraft but that's not unusual. But a few years ago I got a new job as a tester of sat-nav systems for cars. On one trip to England a colleague took me to the RAF museum in Hendon and later I saw Cosford and of course Duxford (Sally B) as well, not to mention a huge number of similar museums in several countries.  A whole shelf in my bookcase is now filled with photo albums from those trips :-)

So playing AH is just the next step in a lifetime obsession I guess...

There ya go! At age 4, I told my dad (a private pilot) that "I'm going to work for Boeing some day!" after he took me to see a brand new 727. ;)

I took my son to Renton Plant Family day last Sunday, we got to tour the inside of the "Boeing Bee" B17F.  My 6 yr old son has been playing online sims since age 3 (offline for the first two years, or HTH with me) and now at age 6 at the Family day last sunday, he was in heaven!

Starts at a young age with most of us.

Hmm, actually HiTech is an ex AW :)

AW is to online flight sim's what the big bang was to the universe... the beginning.

In terms of the evolution of the genre, AW didn't evolve fast enough to avoid sharing the fate of the dinosaurs. I predict that Warbirds will be next to fall to Darwinian inevitability, becoming just another fossil to litter the evolutionary path to the survival of the fittest.

Aces High, is the only simulation evolving rapidly enough to avoid extinction,  so within a couple of years it will be easy to find, because it will probably rule the planet :)

Badboy,
Yep, but in regards to "Finding AH" as the thread suggest, he was better known as the WB's father.  The minority here in Beta were AW, the majority ex-WB'ers.

I do remember Hitech and his long range tank folly's on spawn points in AW ;)

As usual, I followed my husband (Zeb) here!  :)  He smelled at rat when EA took over AW and he never did subscribe.  I couldn't give it up though, so stuck with it until the end, in spite of the hurt I was caused when they decided the volunteer staff were no longer required.... I just couldn't imagine life without AW    I did try AH briefly in October 2000, but couldn't get away with it and closed the account.  Then, in April 2001, when my Squad (Kraits) moved to AH officially, I felt obliged to set up another account, being their Adjutant/XO!  Besides, Zeb told me they now had boats I would probably like - and he was not wrong!  I spent the next 8 months dividing my time between AH and AW, usually coming onto AH first, early in the evening and flying with the Kraits, then going to AW later, by which time my 'other squad' - the Hell Gods - were active.

After the demise of AW in December last year, I moved to AH completely.  :D

A friend of mine (he use to fly under Fdisk) stumbled across it in 1.03 and told me about it.  The rest is history.

Version 1.02 was on a magazine cover disc...PC Zone (Uk) I think. Tried it and didn't like it offline, but went for the 2 week trial anyway....I'm still here.
