Either will work, but the USB Pro Pedals are probably better, because you can use them directly, without any extra effort. If you use the regular, gameport CH Pedals, you either need to "trick" Windows into recognizing the pedals alone (i.e., without an attached joystick), or you need to attach a (gameport, not USB) joystick to the pedals (the cheapest, $5 piece of junk you can find will do). In either case, Windows will recognize two separate devices (i.e., the Saitek HOTAS and the pedals), but AH can deal with that. In the AH joystick setup, just select the pedals for the rudder input.
In my opinion, the USB Pro Pedals are worth the extra cost. Not only are they easier to set up, but they provide future flexibility and have toe brakes, which you can map to the left and right wheel brakes in AH's joystick setup. I find that having analog toe brakes helps a great deal in ground handling (e.g., making tight turns onto the rearming pad).
If you want to use CH Pedals without a separate joystick, you might check out "The Stickworks" (
