Congrats Eskimo. Now the fun part of life, being a parent, is before you. Be afraid, be very afraid!  :D

Good luck, health and wisdom to you and your family. <S>

DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

CC that Mr. RiplEy.

Both of our Daughters were breach, and therefore delivered caesarian-section.  It's pretty freaky to watch someone reach into your wife's stomach and pull out your child.  As safe and routine as caesarian-sections have become, it's still a pretty major surgery and my concern for the well being of both my wife and child was intense.

We didn't find out what we were having before-hand.  Apparently the vast majority of folks choose to find out the sex of their child before it is born.  Much better to wait until birth, IMO.

Yeah, but watching it happen the natural way can be pretty freaky too!

I was sucking more laughing gas than my wife LOL. Our boy took over 12 hours to come to this world and it was quite horrible watching my wife in agony for all that time.

Either way Rip, it's a horrifying, blessed, freak-show of a miracle!

They gave my wife a couple of steroid shots that help the baby's lungs get ready and some magnesium stuff that delays contractions and birth so that the lungs can mature.  The lungs are the last organs to develop and the greatest cause of concern in premature babies.  All together, 58 hours of labor, not full blown labor, but not like she slept through the whole thing either.
