looking at that photo, even though it is Schilling's plane, it would seem like your gray base is a little too reddish hue... should be slightly blue/green.  Also, the green should be darker, contrasting a bit more from the gray as in the photo.  I reckon Schilling's plane was painted with the same paints as Gabby's.  Also check out the link monk sent on the squad list too--that guy did some good research on the Gabby camo job.

Look the grey from this one. I came to the conclusion that they are using various shade of grey and/or green. It also looks different depending on the lighting.
On the gabby up there, I perso wished it would be a bit darker green, but I'm not redoing it, just done spending 6 hours on it. (better than first one who took me 24 h):D

yes, there is some slight change from the ww2 era color photos and the current schilling jug, but you still need a little more contrast from the green and grey in your paintjob, imo.  as long as you are doing everything in layers, changing the colors should take only a few seconds.

No because I treat the green/grey blending independantly from the layers, and the panels lines shadow also.
I have layers but not everything is layered bacuse I don't achive the same result as "everything layered".

is it my imagination, or is there a black ETO recognition strip (same as the white strips on the early olive razorbacks) under the hstab on schilling's jug [edit: not schilling's jug.  yellow tail so it is 62nd FS.  who's jug is that?  LM*A??] in that last picture?  if so, the under surfaces must be natural metal straight from the factory.

Dono Sancho, but look at the landing gear door, they are grey camoed I think.

interesting commentary from the gabby model page I linked above:

Quote
The top surfaces are finished in RAF Ocean Grey and Dark Green with the lower surfaces in Medium Sea Grey. There is better than even money that the undersides were left natural metal, however. One clue is that the black ETO bands were still present on the undersurfaces of the stabilizers. The other possibility is that the fuselage may have been painted in Medium Sea Grey and the undersides of the flying surfaces natural metal. On the other hand, they may have simply masked the lower ETO bands, when they painted the aircraft.

Gabby and Schacki believed the undersides were a lighter gray than used on the top surfaces. Freeman and others believe that they were left natural metal.

From the landing gear, it seems like it is either a lighter gray than the top, or natural metal.  It does look more like painted though, since doesn't seem to reflect as well as I would expect for natural metal--then again it may just be the angle.  But under the hstab, you can somewhat clearly see the ETO band, as well as the yellow reflection of the rudder... which suggests at least the hstab bottom may have been left unpainted, since the gray paint would have not reflected the rudder that clearly.

Look at the stripe, it's only on the elevator, and everything looks painted.

Frenchy, is that picture from June or July '44, cause that must have been taken just before Gabby decided to try his hand at tilling the farmland with his prop blade thus insuring his internment for the rest of the war  :D

**Edit**
Opps my bad, I didn't look at the squad color, that's a 62nd FS and not 61st which Gabby was in.
**Edit**

After the invasion, they stopped painting the strips and would just paint over em when they repaired damage, and not repaint the strips. I noticed that the stripes weren't on the top of the wings as well as only on the lower half of the rudder. Just as a side note: the black strips on the underside of the rudder and horizontal stab designated the plane as "European Theater of Ops"
