Colecting Downed Pilots
« on: November 24, 2002, 02:40:39 PM »
Now,
Some of you newbies won't know what I am talking about, heck some of the Vets may think I have lost my mind... But I remember back when Aces High was younger you could collect downed pilots in C47's and fly them back to base. I even had a video of me doing it. You could only pick up 1 at a time but you could still do it.

I remember then, we where not able to do it any more... Why was that?

You did it like this... Landed your goon... The guy walked up next to it, hit .join (handle) then it joined your aircraft and you could take off again with him and take him back to a base...

I am sure I was not drunk....

yeah - bring that back and give us a PBY to pick em up in the water - make them ASR under the Geneva Convention - and take away 100 perks for the pilot that kills it. ;)

Not sure but I think you could be remembering a scenario (I think it was Tour Of Duty) a couple of years or so back. C47s could 'rescue' pilots by landing next to them, whereupon the pilot would type .exit and then .join the C47 as an observer. The C47 would then fly home.

I remember this because for some daft reason we had C47s still flying around two hours after the event trying to rescue me and some other strange bugger. We even walked all the way to a common RV point! Then one of the C47s landed heavily and smashed a wheel in, so we had to wait for the second one to land and fly us home.

Utter waste of time, since every single enemy pilot had logged off long before, but it was still a laugh. You had to be there I guess. :)

Duma, you are spot on!
I am not sure but I think I might just have been the bloke that picked you up now I think about it... Any idea why we can't do it any more?

If its just a case of typing .exit and then .join GameID, then it would be possible anyway.....  :)

Gimme the PBY and your coordinates....I'll come get you!

But I get half your Perk points for the mission!

Seriously, I wonder if this is worth implimenting, Ie, how many pilots would fly search and rescue.

I wonder how hard it would be to program a flying boat for a water landing....

I know I would do it.

What about landing with any plane and picking up a downed pilot?  This was done often enough.

I really like this idea though.

We definitly need this idea implemented.  This would be so much more realistic.

I don't see the point...other than for toejams & giggles.

Is this a way for goon pilots to get perk points?  What would be the advantage for the downed pilot..that he doesn't get captured?

If he didnt get a capture that would help his k/d ratio as a capture is counted as a death.  I'll help out even if there are no perk points, heck I dont need any more I dont use the ones I have now very often.
