Some Possible TV Exposure
« on: December 10, 2002, 04:10:25 PM »
Hey guys!

As some of you may know, I work for TechTV and I am the Technical Director for a show called "The Screen Savers."  It's a hour and a half live international television show all about computers and technology and a variety of other things thrown in.

For the past couple of months we have been hosting a LAN Party on Thursdays featuring such games as Q3, UT2003, Battlefield 1942, and now Counter-Strike.  I have been asked many times why we never get to see such higher-end and more complex games like WB3, AH, and WW2OL.  I don't really have an answer other than unless you are involved with such games, they are easily overlooked.  TV is a lot about appealing to the mass audience and when it comes to gaming most people tend to think about X-Box and maybe Quake on PC.

Well, I've just had a nice little chat with one of our segment producers on exposing this world of MMOLG, specifically regarding flight-sims and the high-end HOTAS controllers that many of us shell out big bucks for.  He's all for it and hopefully we can work together to at least attempt to shed a little light on what we all do.  It probably won't be for another couple of months yet, as the show is heavily booked.  But this could be a HUGE opportunity to get some bigtime exposure and some free press.

I'm willing to work with anybody who is willing to assist in this endeavor.

Thanks!
Keith

I watch TechTV all the time, yall have some good shows

Would this be about AH specifically or the online flight sim community in general?

I have little doubt the 332nd Flying Mongrels will be willing to help anyway we can. Might be fun having a squad flying during the production time.

BTW: I for one, get a kick watching the "The Screen Savers"!

TV is all about appeal, and all these old faces wont give much entertainment. Most of my gamer friends overlook simming as something that only old people do. This is mostly because the older crowd usually alienates the younger guys trying to get into the hobby. And then they ask themselves why the sim industry is failing, lol.

You'll have to put many young faces to represent the hobby. So let me know if you need help with the show :)

Anything you need help with I can help out also. If you are looking for people with "high-end HOTAS controllers" you have come to the right group. There are several of us (myself included) who have Thrustmaster Cougar HOTAS setups and there are some here that have had various "mods" done to eliminate little problems.

BTW I love TechTV and hope that my new house up the road has TechTV available as a cable channel. If not I guess it will be satelite tv time.
