Perked Rides and Drone Ack
« on: March 17, 2003, 12:07:28 AM »
This happens too often to NOT be a coincidence...

Took Delta Hog to Jabo strike CV off 219, took a few hits but could RTB, I dropped at about 8-10k.

Yet when I take F4U-4 to fight near CVs, or even near a given enemy base, they get no pinged.I know I have. I've been killed enough times w/o worrying about drones wearing perk colored glasses, as well.

I've never been killed as much in any other rides by drone ack than in the F4U-4.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

I have lost more 262's to fluffy ack I think than any other plane.

I think the prediction routines in AH (at least for fluffy ack) are more accurate the faster you go...

Ack accurracy doesn't depend on speed, just how much you change the change of you flight path.

If you're flying over AH ack with mach 3 in a straight line, you'll get hit as many times as when you were flying at 100 mph in a straight line (except that it takes longer to cross the field at low speed).

Slower aircraft are usually maneuvering more than fast aircraft, that's why fast ones get hit more often.

conclusion: zero is the best ack killer.

I have never noticed it specifically in an F4U-4 but I have gotten smoked in a 262 at about 500MPH.

It seems to me that getting hit at extreme speed even at low level should be very difficult to do.

I have noticed at times that Zero's or Spit's can float in the ack seemingly untouched while high speed passes will almost certainly get a couple of hits in your arse.

Seems kinda backwards to me.

Some clarification...and thanks for the info...

I was and am aware of the speed issue, I was fighting, AND jinking, far ahead of the cruiser, and no more than 250, rolling and jockeying for a guns solution on lower prey...It was definitely fluffy ack that for me, not manned AA...and definitely breaking off when they banked back toward the fleet. I can do this indefinitely in the F4U-1.

I'm just ticked off (there gors my 9:1 Kill ratio..LOL), but from the names of the guys responding, I think my claim has some validity

ccvi...   your flightpath at 450 mph is MUCH more predictable than if you are travelling at 200mph...  think about it...

And due to my past experiences with fluffy ack in 262's..  I do try to vary my alt and course alot when near fluffly ack..

Sure it is. But it isn't the speed that makes the ack hit, but the changes in flight path.

That changes of the flight path are limited by speed is just mere conincidence.

Hmmm...I fly through ack puffs all the time without jinking and jiving and have never been hit.  Never.  Not even once.  Every once in a while I might hear a hit damage sound but a check of the damage list shows all systems go.
