« on: March 23, 2003, 07:38:06 PM »
OK here the situation.

I have :
ASUS A7V8X  - mobo
AMD 2200 xp
1 x 512 DDR 400  chip of ram
running Win XP pro
(rest is illrelivant)

I had a geforce 2 GTS 32mg   card ran great was geting 85  FPS down to 19 FPS  in Aces HIGH

I bought a ATI 9700 pro

Before istalling i uninstaalled all geforce drivers and ran DETDESTRYERS    to eliminate any old nvidia crap.
then ran "regclean" to clean up my registry.

install the ATI 9700 pro and im getting  worse FPS than i did with the GEFORCE 2.

So i got the Rage 3D tweak but thats still not helping!

What is it i need to do?
Maunally clean my registry ? if so of what?

whan i run the RAGE 3D HELP THING ITS  telling me i have 2 video cards installed which i dont.

What am i missing or what do i need to redo?

any help would be greatly appreiciated!
SkUZZY am i limited by the CPU on this one?  (can't be the Geforce 2 ran better than the ATI 9700)

You running the Catalyst 3.2 drivers?  Did you install the ATI control panel?

I know someone who has that combination and they are running very well.

It's always a problem going from NVidia to ATI or vice-versa, although going from NVidia is usually a bit more tedious.

You might try re-installing DirectX as well.  It has its own registration stuff, and that may be what is hurting you.

Well im using the catalyst 3.2 drivers I installed them first!
Then installed the control panel. I then installed  DX9. After seeing no change i installed the RAGE 3D tweak thing, still nothing
Then i ran the RAGE 3D trouble shooter and it was referencing the old Geforce 2 and the ATI 9700
I edited the registry to remove the line referencing the Geforce 2 card.
uninstalled the ATI stuff then reinstalled it. I havent reinstall DX 9 yet but ill try that today sometime(ya im at work till 6pm EST)

I have my bios set up so the AGP is  running at 8X with an apature size of 256.

other than that im not sure what else can be happening
the card is currently optimized  for  preformance not quality, and im still only getting a rare max of 40-50 FPS (for a sec)  averaging low 30's andf botteming out in the teens.

Im running 1024x786 32 bit @ 85 refresh

still confused

Isn't that asus board with a VIA chipset?

If it is, install the latest 4in1 drivers, that may fix your problems. You should do _easily_ 100fps in AH with that setup.

I get that with the gf3ti200 and xp1900 with your resolution.

Back up essential files, reformat, easiest way to solve 99% of computer problems.  squealing with the registry is a dangerous game and you may have deleted some files you shouldnt have.

Thats true, but if I was him I'd try to reinstall 4in1, those gart drivers might make a world of difference. If they're not setup right at the moment I mean.

Seems like it might have helped a little but im not sure till i get a real chance to F-with it.

Do these Numbers sound like what i sould be expecting?

@1600x1200 resolution, 32 bit using 4xfsaa, he gets about 100 in the tower.

I get about 130, but my system is a tad faster.

That's the other thing.  What resolution you running at and do you have V-Sync enabled?

The 9700Pro runs better at higher resolutions than lower ones.  Sounds odd, I know, but the beast likes punishment.

Crank up the resolution and see what happens, or turn up the FSAA to at least 4x...6x is best at lower resolutions.

Well skuzzy i wasnt getting anything better than what i had.

At one point i got so pissed i deleted all video setting out of the registry and started over installed it all one thing at a time and im still stuck right where ive been.
I did try crancking up the resolution but got nothing and stuff is too small to read for my non-glasses wearing ass............lol

sad part is my hard rive is running at UDMA 66 not higher could this be a limiting factor?
IM planing on buying one of the new W.D. SATA 10,000 rpm - bad boys when i  can findon online then do a fresh reistall of everything.

I can understand why after i removed then deleted EVERYthing Nvidia possible  (i went into the registry after i tryind the other stuff - found more - dumped it all)  re-removed then reinstelled drivers, control panel, then DX9 ......same thing!
I have too much on my hard drive to dump right now even thought i have a 2nd 4 gig drive(lol is a udma 33) to back up my main drive.

if i knew what to look for and take out i could but im just "a dumb middle aged white man hacking his way into cyber space"

Is there any IRQ sharing going on in that system?  Start->Programs->Acessories->System Tools->System Information

and expand the Hardware list then select IRQ.
