I used to like his stuff as well, until he paid $200 for his ticket to a Sinn Fein/IRA fund raiser.

Really?

Then that's the last time I watch a TV show of his. I was going to get this Columbine thing.

I don't know what his background is.  I don't even know if he's a Canadian or U.S. citizen.  This is the first time I've heard of this "$200/plate IRA fundraiser".  If he knowingly participated... it really gives him a black eye.

santa... propoganda?  sure why not but... flat out lieing just makes your position look weak and stupid..  every "fact" in moores film is either an outright lie or.... an outright lie... he isn't even hard to catch... makes his position look weak and stupid... makes those who praise his work look weak and lazy and stupid...

Name one thing the Charleton Heston or the NRA has said that was a lie.

you wont but.... even now more and more people are looking at "bowling " and realizing they have been duped by a fake documentary.  If he is the best the anti gun crowd can put up then I can relax.

Well, I did a quick search on google, but there isn't anything linking the two I can find. I might have missed something.

I find it difficult to believe someone who is so anti-gun would attend an event organised by a group with strong links to a para-military organisation.

Unless he is a complete hypocrite.

The $200 bit might be wrong, I'm going from memory, but I remember Moore at the Sinn Fein fundraiser.

It would have been early - mid nineties, probably during the first IRA ceasefire, but again I am not sure of the details.

I saw it during a programme looking at Sinn Fein in America, and Moore was one of the few celebrities who attended that I'd heard of. I'd been a fan of Moore's BBC series up to that point, even though I disagreed with a lot of his views.

Couldn't find anything about it on a Google web search, but a groups search turned up a bit:

http://groups.google.com/groups?q=%22michael+moore%22+sinn+fein&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&safe=off&start=0&sa=N

I can't remember many of the details (judging by what's said in the newsgroup postings it was 8 years ago), but I am sure of the central fact of seeing Moore at a Sinn Fien fundraiser, and not as one of his programmes. It struck me at the time as very hypocritical.

And this was when Sinn Fein was still firmly regarded as the political wing of the IRA.

Son of a squeak.

Uhmmm...

I really do not think when people express thier opinion in a sane and civil manner they should catch a lot of flack for it.  Afterall,..it is a right any American would fight for.
We may not agree, but that is ok.  As long as those opinions are expressed well, then I see no reason for cooking someone's goose.

That is my opinion.
