Autoexec.cam

Anybody else get AUTOXEC.CAM in Win XP on their C drive.

On the web some say it's a Trojan, others say it's put there by AV software?

If it's a trojan, I really give up on trying to stop crap getting on my PC cos I've got, AV, firewall and don't use e-mail on my games machine:(

Is it Autoxec.cam or Autoexec.cam?

Sometimes when new software is installed, it renames Autoexec.bat before modifying it, then saves the modified file as Autoexec.bat (a DOS startup file that's probabaly irrelevant in WinXP).  If you have an Autoexec.bat file on C: then perhaps you upgraded your computer to XP from Win98?  I've never heard of a virus file ending in .cam, though potentially, any file can be infected.

Edit: Oops, just re-read your subject line.  Autoexec.cam may just be a backup copy of Autoexec.bat.

.cam shouldnt be an virus/trojan, its not an executable (.exe , .com, .bat , .scr , .pif , .lnk)

If you want to protect yourself from trojans.... Stop downloading executable files from the internet... You cant simply rely on you AV software and firewall, its to easy to bypass...

Music and movies are ok...

Regards.

PC-Cillin 2003. Updated regular.

Not download executable filed from the internet! Everything from Detonator drivers to Powerstrip even Aces High is a downloaded executable file.

Thanks though, I don't think it's anything to worry about;)

The worst thing about all the virus/firewall/trojan/etc etc stuff is how PARANOID we get!

Actually I have to tell you a story that added to my paranoia today. I had a phonecall from a software vendor saying an order I had placed for Tuskgee Fighters (an add on for CFS1) had not been processed because the creditcard was out of date. Well, I had not placed this order and when I phoned the credit card company they confirmed that it was an old card. Cue total assumption someone had hacked my PC for credit card details etc etc. using this new AUTOEXEC.CAM  Worm!

Turns out the software vendor had screwed up their computer system and had turned up an order I placed for said add on 3 years ago! Big phew!

I'm calm now and the men say I can stop taking the tablets!
