Basketball is strange... off the court I think you would be hard pressed to find a collection of individuals with less class, and on the court, when people arent busy shooting free throws because someone looked at them funny when they jumped, theyre just running back and forth.
Hockey on the other hand requires a mix of brute force and finesse. Off the ice, the players are 95% well spoken, educated, intelligent, and gracious.
In Philadelphia for example, its easy to compare someone like Allen Iverson with Jermey Roenick. Iverson is a thug. During his press conferences hes insulting to his team: "My team needs to pick it up and play behind me, etc etc etc, Im the best, etc etc etc." and he's more concerned with bringing pistols over to some guys house where his girlfriend is appretnly staying. JR actually has a personality, and more often that not usualy takes over control of the interview from the reporter - its actually pretty funny to watch. Off the ice he has gotten into some trouble in the passed with women other than his wife... but he isnt filmed with drug dealers and doesnt think a brand new Lexus and 20 inch wheels means you have money.
I just cant get into Basketball because the frikken whistle is blown every 7 seconds - and who can get excited about a basket when there are like 100 per hame? You score in basketball and people clap - you score in a hockey game and the ground shakes. Its just more fun to both watch, and play, IMNSHO.
The only years I only enjoyed basketball where when the Bulls were doing well in the early/mid 90's (being from Chicago). Once Michael left, the sport kind of died.
