I must've missed it too, so far I've seen no official conformation (i.e. From a HTC staff member, not from one of you bozos saying "Oh i head hitech say this, that, and the other online the other night") that subs will be in AH2.

Read 'AH2', thats the upgrade that'll be coming any day now, not some future version as was seen in Sabre's interview with HiTech.

Note that I said subs will probably be in AH2. Even then, a flying boat could still be put to very good use for anti-shipping.

"Probable" is very stretchable. I guess the probabiliy is closer to 0.01 than 0.5.

To make more use of the Catalina/Sunderland/Emily, they should be the only aircraft able to mark a Subs last known position via some sort of marker buoy.  The buoy would show up on map indicating a sub there but would only last for, say, 30 minutes.  The sub would then have to dive and alter course to avoid any bombing! :)

Flying boats could operate from ports and from fleets with a seaplane tender attached that once sunk would render such operations useless.

They would be capable of:

Troop transport
resupply
torpedo and bomb attacks

and to make them useful per their role . . .

how about radar for surfaced sub detection/fleet detection?

Sakai

Emily
Catalina
Sunderland
Herone
He-115

that would be a great planeset for "floaters"

I agree about putting dar on it, but I don't think flying boats were ever really used as goons.

I wonder if I'll ever see a 'floater' with the Libya skin...;)

Flying boats were used as troop transports by all belligerents.  Nothing compared to their recon use or anti-sub use, but unquestionably they were thus used.  I have always felt though that smaller planes like the cat might not be thus used while the Emily and Sunderland (a derivative of the passenger "Empire Class" flying boats) most certainly should carry troops.

Oh,I think if a Mook wanted to cruise around the ocean in a 262 lookig for flying boats, he'd be more than welcome to.

I doubt they will be teetering around out there for hours, they will likely launch from CV groups and ports.  This would alow a 262 to fly through fleet ack, every Jet Pilot's dream.

;-)
