[Monday] Morning, coming down
« on: August 04, 2003, 10:21:02 AM »
Man I feel like crap. Coming down off the Steriods the Doc gave me for my back. I got a case of the shakes, and an nice eye twitch. Reminded me of this Song I first heard performed by Johnny Cash.

Monday Morning Coming down
-K Kristofferson

well I woke up Sunday morning
with no way to hold my head
that didn't hurt
and the beer I had for breakfast wasn't
bad so I had one more for dessert
then I fumbled through my closet
for my clothes
and found my cleanest dirty shirt
and I shaved my face
and combed my hair
and stumbled down the stairs
to meet the day
i'd smoked my brain the night before
with cigarettes and songs
that I've been pickin'
but I lit my first and watched a small kid
cussin' at a can that he was kickin
then I crossed the empty street and
caught the sunday smell
of someone fryin chicken
and it took me back to something
that I'd lost somehow
somewhere along the way
on the sunday morning sidewalk
wishing lord that I was stoned
cause there's something in a sunday
that makes a body feel alone
and there's nothing short of dying
half as lonesome as the sound
on the sleeping city sidewalk
sunday morning coming down
in the park I saw a daddy
with a laughing little girl
he was swingin
and I stopped beside the Sunday school
and listened to the song
that they were singing
then I headed back for home
and somewhere far away
a lonely bell was ringing
and it echoed thru the canyon like
the disappearing dreams of yesterday
on the sunday morning sidewalk
wishing lord that I was stoned
cause therels something in a sunday
that makes a body feel alone
and there's nothing short of dying
half as lonesome as the sound
on the sleeping city sidewalk
sunday morning coming down

If you got those reactions from Steroids for pain in your back, I suggest you find another doctor. I had two shots done in my ailing shoulder prior to surgery and never had that kind of reaction to a cortezone(Steroid based) shot.

Rip,

It wasn't getting the steroids that gave me trouble, it was coming down from them. I've  hhad a cortezone shot before, but that was a once and done type thing. This time it was a 6 day schedule of prednozone.

It's kinda funny, becauses they even ease you down off the stuff. I started with 6 tablets on the first day, and subtracted one each day until today. There are explicit warnings about cutting it off cold turkey.  I cant imagine how ****ty that would have made me feel lol.

I think I'm just not very good at taking drugs.

[edit] Interesting, Prednisone is essentially the same thing as Cortizone
[/edit]

[edit] Isn't this nice: "There have been rare cases of people becoming psychotic (agitated and having hallucinations) or depressed while on short treatments of Prednisone."

Oh wow! Hard core!  Hope you're doing better!  (By the way, I love that song, Cash sings it well too)

I bet you hurt your back squeezing into that squatty little spitfire. Isn't that thing built exclusively for Englishmen and midgets.

I think Prednisone is the steroid they gave me for a bad case of poison ivy.  It had set in really bad bad because I also have severe psoriasis and the poison ivy kind of 'jumped' into all the open psoriasis sores.  they gave me 2 of those 6-day packs. (2 days @6 tabs, 2 days @5, ...)

the first 6 days (specially the first 2) where great, I don't think I've ever felt better or got more done in my life.  then the energy leve got steadily worse and a 2 day 'hangover' with 12-14 hours of sleep each day, after the last pills were gone.

I hurt my back a while ago and got a muscle relaxer called Robaxin I think. Made me feel pretty good at the time. Actually I felt kinda like one of those clocks in a Dali painting.

Last time I had a back spasm was on a business trip.  The Managing Director of the company I was doing the "books" for hooked me up with a doctor who prescribed some heavy duty muscle relaxants as well as some valium.

I kinda overdid the valium on night one.  I feel asleep while eating a pizza.  When I woke up I was litterally COVERED in ants and the pizza was a seething mass of the things.

Ignoring my back I jumped up and ran straight to the shower.

Nothing helps you ignore back pain like having ants crawling all over you en mass.
