DvD collection additions...
« on: September 02, 2003, 12:03:04 PM »
My wife commented last week on how I haven't been buying as many DvDs in the last couple months.  That was a big mistake.

The Meaning of Life was finally re-released today.  Coincidently, MGM is running a special on a series of their DvDs for $9.95 with a "Buy 2 get 1 free" coupon to boot.  The Great Escape and A Bridge too Far were both on that rack.

I added some other stuff too...

Pluto Nash ranks in the 20 worst in the collection.  Didn't really know anything about it before I bought it for $10.

BasketBall rules.

I've not even begun to buy DVD's yet.  But the top two on my list are MP: Holy Grail and Dr Strangelove.

What I would REALLY Like to find, and buy,  would be full broadcasts (tv or even CD radio audio would be fine) of past World Series and Stanly Cup playoffs. What I've found have been been "highlight" videos with modern day (not original game announcers) over dubbed commentary and cheesey sounds  :(

I haven't heard real good things about "Gods and Generals".  If I recall... Gettysburg is done by the same director?

Yeah, in all honesty I've not seen Gods and Generals ... I've seen Gettysburg, and own it. It is really an awesome movie, I think you'd really enjoy it. Great cast, great plot, great story.

Gods and Generals is a good, if very long, movie.  However, it would have been better served by being called "The Stonewall Jackson Story."  I get the feeling that the portions with Chamberlain are pretty much only added so as to give the appearance of covering both sides of the war.  IMO, Gettysburg is a much better movie.

Yeah, the book is like that, too.  Gettysburg is a better movie, but this one is good.  I expect The Last Full Measure to be very good.  (or depressing if your a southerner)

Like Mini said, as soon as "Three O'clock High" drops I am there.  Been waiting for that movie for a long, long time.
