It's a cannon... not a mortar.  And... I wonder why people used to use so much steel when manufacturing canons... all they really needed was a 1/2" thick sidewall.

The reason they made such big cannons is because they sometimes got really carried away with the powder charge.  The last thing you want is for your cannon to explode like some giant pipe bomb.

Actually the only for explosive work ive done in the last ten years is I build steel pipe and base Mortar launching tubes for 4th of july /new years   there alot safer then the cardboard ones .

I still have a really neat directional one I made many yrs ago that uses a simple angle finder to adjust.

bah, I've done this kinda stuff all through my childhood and have only rang my ears and burnt all my hair off several times.
