R/C Enthusiasts
« on: October 27, 2011, 11:27:07 AM »
I have been thinking about starting a private forum for those of us that are invlolved in the hobby. I think it would be a good place for many to chat or discuss new products, issues, or projects that arise. The only question is, who flies R/C? And are there enough of us?

i fly R/C been doing it for about 30 years i know theres a few others that do, one of my squadmates is a model designer for a major R/C manufacturing company ( Tempest1) he has a ton of knowledge from the design aspect. just see how many people post here and maybe the numbers would be good enough to have one, i like the idea behind it, it would be a good place to swap info without sorting through back pages looking for related R/C info  :aok

flying R/C? damn, that was a letdown, im more of a guy who likes to take his massive R/C truck out to the dirt track and just mess around :lol

i did have a R/C plane but i lost a propeller for its left wing, it was an AC-130. had all the model guns on it and everything.

Exactly what I was thinking. I think 15 people would be enough to start a forum. Any time I post something R/C in OClub I can never get everyone's opinion because a lot of guys that fly, dont find the thread. A private forum would give everyone a chance to give their opinions or thoughts on the subject in a concentrated location.

$200 wont even buy an Engine for my B25 Mitchell  :D    besides ground R/C's are for uncoordinated people lol J/K   Planes are flown in a 3D world, hard to get the same feeling on the ground. I've tried both but flying a plane in the air is hands down the winner for me.

edit... i fly only Nitro or Gas planes electric isnt my Bag.

This here is a great brief history to today's modern R/C's. lol who doesn't remember getting dizzy as heck from controlled line flying the old Cox and Testors plastic or Balsa scratch built planes.
you can still buy controlled line planes today for under 50 dollars, fun little planes and brings back good memories from the 70's.

$200 could only get you a low end/beginner RC plane.

I have 2 planes now but have not had time to fly in some time.

I used to build them for folks.

I've been building and flying R/C planes since about 1986.  I am a big collector of plan sheets and love to scratch build.  I have enough plans to keep me busy building long after I am dead.

Count me in!

This is an old photo of a 1/12th scale Mustang I built and occaisionally fly while it was in progress.  Don't have any current photos of it on this computer at the moment.

200 dollars. My PNP 109 was 230. Still needed battery, rx, charger, and tx. And it is electric :)

As I said, R/C cars are for kids.

Anyway, if we can find enough peeps, Ill get a forum going. Just need to get enough guys to post here so I can get a census.

Try the Syma S107: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/8499000606.  It's a $20 toy yet it is amazingly stable and controllable. My wife bought me a different chopper for Christmas and it was fun but very unstable and hard to fly.  The Syma is well built and it was shocking how stable it was.  Sure it's just a toy but for $20 it's a load of fun.  (True, you can only fly indoors; or outdoors at dawn or dusk if there is no wind.)
