Abuse... (note to HTC and the paying customers))
« on: November 02, 2000, 09:54:00 AM »
Last night in the MA (new sfterr map)I watched the whining continue about the ostwind.  A player had driven to an enemy field (i believe in this case it was the downhill from 56 to 27)  in an osty in support of an attack to capture the base.
He was vulching the aircraft taking off from what I could tell by the complaining.  Do you all not remember when a panzer would do this same thing?  I remember watching Storm do this ALOT.

With the new map it takes 15 minutes or more to drive to an enemy base, the player that takes the time to drive the distance while the enemy IGNORES him deserves to vulch them!!  You can see the marker in sector, and up in a tank or aircraft LONG before he arrives in most cases.(56-27 being the exception).

Frankly I couldn't believe what i saw over channel one.  Name calling etc.

There is alot of this whining and abuse going on in the arena.  Last night I saw an arguement ensue over a player's plane choice and attack style (gee how unique).  The majority of us pay for our entertainment, and as a paying client I should be able to fly what I want, when I want, how I want, within the rules, and not have to listen to this BS.

Some players in the arena have nothing productive or even non derogatory to say.  Some of these players take quite abit of fun out of the game.  I've flown other online sims, and find the attitude in the MA of AH to be the worst I've seen.

Perhaps a squelch list could be included in the sim.  Permitting a player to list all the players they wish to squelch, and is loaded upon connection. I really find this takes alot outta the sim as is.

The 2 week free trial I think also often takes away from the enjoyment at times as well.  Constant CAPs across the screen from some brat who just downloaded the sim, and hasn't taken the time to read the help webpages, who likely won't bother subscribing anyways, is just damn annoying.  I don't mind helping new players, I find alot of the time I am unable to not help! Perhaps a "tutorial" mode or a quick key reference (like aw) needs to be added for the new players.

Personally I'd like to see a second arena possibly smaller for the 2 week accounts, and an exclusive members arena with additional aspects to encourage the free account players to sign up.  Possibly have a limited planeset in the free arena, no naval units once they arrive, or no scoring,  just something to entice the freebies to sign on.

I think at least some of the above issues will be supported by the majority of the paying customers and deserve serious consideration.

(off to read complaint filing procedures..)

i guess perhaps I am Rip +)

I'd rather not squelch 1, I'd rather just squelch those pinheads who I feel have nothing but negative to say, even on my own team.

Seriously Rip, what are your thoughts on what I posted?

I agree with what you said Skurj.
I've been guilty at times of also taunting another player, last week Minus for example, but this week I took a pledge to myself and the MOL squad to stop.
Good natured ribbing, like Nuttz asking me "what I've done with the sheep?" is fine   but I won't be trying to tweak anyone's nose anymore. If I find I feel like that I'll squelch channel one. If I don't like others yammering on channel one, I'll squelch them.
It's all I think I can do at this time to try and make AH a nicer place to entertain ones self at. And also in light of Pyro's post I'll spam a little less here and try and contribute positively and not with sarcasm or a sword.

Hiya's
I totally agree about the Abuse and Remarks on Radio 1
I too sometimes resort to .Squelch which is a neccesity sometimes
I am fairly new to the internet 24mths now abouts and cut my teeth in a MS sim and a little CFS and i must admit that in the 18mths i spent in those i can honestly say i had never to suffer any of the moans/whinges/baits/derogatory/shameful and i mean shameful remarks some people like to hurl around in this great sim, I see this as an enjoyment game/sim (omg i said game !!) and at times it makes me feel kinda sick that guys/gals have to resort to pure abuse just to make their point
Sorta have to feel sorry for people who have to express themselves through horrible remarks/comments/flames

As for new guys/gals not reading the manual i think along this line.... Ohh yeahh i got it d/loaded now let's see what this is all about....Uh ohh i am so eager maybe it's not that hard to get to grips with....Ohh darn it's real tough to get into   and no-one seems to have time to help me      now how many of us have felt like this at times ? i can say i have rushed in (when i first came into beta i had m8s already in here and was fortunate to get advice/help quickly) but lately not many will seem to help any new guy/gal   which is sad in a way when in this arena there are so many nice and understanding people who seem to be genuine nice peops

Sorry for a long post but i just got another piece to add

I feel the more people that help a new guy/gal the more chance there will be of them staying and taking out a sub (not a plug for HTC i swear   ) thus more resources for HTC to develop more awesome angles to AH and we know so far that awesome is the key word for AH !!!

Sorry Skurj for mainly waffling on about Newbies more than you may of wished to see

Have Fun !!!

Be Good !!!

Take Care !!!

Yup SKurj, I agree with eveyrything you said.

With newbies, I've developed a sense of whether it's a "I am a lazy bum and don't wanna read the manual for a game which I in 20 seconds will call stupid because it models torque and there is no supergod padlock" gamer or a "hm, I wonder how this is done" one.

So, if if its the first, I say "RTFM" and then people call me insensitive, crude and "you were a newbie too boohoo".

I dinnae RTFM that closely, but closely enough to have only a few questions. My whinging was on rip, hristo and others to send me film because I got shot down all the time and wanted to know why the hell they weren't!  .

A permanent squelch list would be nice.

I think we need a Nath arena...similiar to the off line arena. It would be one drone surrounded by others of higher intellect

People only want realism if it is sugarcoated. I can assure you real life soldiers squeak all the time, about there equipment, and the enemys. Also as hard as it may be to belive. Soldiers sometimes say a poo poo word.

Soldiers in action and squeaking and cussing go hand in hand. I have yet to meet anybody that saw action make a fool of themselves the way the whiners, squeakers and cussers do in the MA.
Leave real life soldiers out of this...there is NO way you can compaire an online sim to the reality of war as far as peoples public behaviour is concerned.

Minus-

You forget that a permanent squelch list means the filter can be removed.

I vote permanent squelch.

Permanent squelch lives in  my hopes and dreams in this game as well.  Then I can squelch myself and never have to worry about what I type in the buffer! ;P
