If they forgot to pull the arming pins, the bomb wouldn't have dropped.  Those pins controll/block jettison of munitions.

The arming wire controlls the bomb arming.  You energize a solenoid that his holding a ring that pulls the arming wire out of the bomb as it drops.  If that solenoid doesn't energize, the ring and wire drops with the bomb.

All-in-all... someone got lucky.  I wonder if there will be any "those damn reckless dutch pilot..." threads that start because of this.

So are you saying that the pilot purposely didn't arm the bomb?

No... the solenoids are one of the key failure components on the rack.  It's entirely possible that one of them failed and the bomb wasn't armed.  Several other things are also possible, but the solenoid (or pilot error) would be the most likely two.

I have seen where the arming wire has snapped before clearing the arming mechanism and fuzes that simply didn't arm before.  But most errors revolve around the arming solenoids or the weapons control panel actuator.

What I am saying for sure is that someone forgetting to pull the arming pin could not have caused this problem.

The three in the hut have been offered counseling to overcome the shock.

I'd bet they'd rather have a few minutes of personal time with the pilot.

I'd just need someone to cover the additional laundry cost for my pants.

I'd say two failures by the same plane in the same drop means the Dutch military could use some process re-engineering.
